Well good morning from Sheffield, centre of the snooker universe! And happy birthday Skypigeon.
It is a grey, blustery old day today, with rain looking likely, but of course the weather doesn't matter for the next 17 days as we'll be tableside in the arena.
Play gets underway in 20 minutes' time, so I hope you've all got the telly or computer ready to beam the action into your living room.
I understand that MC for the first few days will be Mark Johnston-Allen, while Rob Walker is engaged with some boxing.
Anyway I have now to take my seat, so I shall wish you all happy snookering, wherever and however you're watching – and sign off with my usual valediction...
