  • carter vs hawkins

Clive Everton noticed a bloke wearing a 'i love snooker' t-shirt in the crowd and said something like 'but not snooker like this'. D. Dale(i think it was) then said 'well,he's still here'. Everton then agreed that sometimes it takes grit to get through matches when the quality of snooker is low

I was entranced by this match but did wonder how players with such poor quality could make it to the televised stage. Stevens, just defeated by Higgins' would have thrashed either of these two. It's a shame Stevens met Higgins in the first round as he has so much more to offer than carter or hawkins, but i guess the rankings don't lie.whoever gets through carter vs hawkins , they'll be gone next round

I wasn't surprised from the low quality of that match. Barry Hawkins is always a pain to watch.

i think both of them play their best snooker when up against the better players and so it was a bit of a duel. it did start off pretty good in the first 5 frames, though it was slow

Not necessarily. You have one low quality, gritty, error-strewn, nothing-works kind of match one day, and then you can raise your game and play better. John Higgins did not start out playing extremely well last year, and who won?

There certainly not the most exciting of players, but they are more than capable of giving any of the top 8 players in the world a real run for there money! I have a preference for Carter to win as i think he has more shots in his armoury and is more attacking!

Well lets just the Hawkins match doesn't get bogged down with too much safety like last night! Though to be fair to be both of them at times the balls had run unkindly for the two of them

There's no doubt last night's session was not very entertaining for the viewers but I think we can forgive both players due to the run of the balls, the overall level of form and the extra tension of playing in the 1st Round at the Crucible. Whoever progresses will I'm sure play a lot better in Round 2.

I think Ali Carter's performance at the Crucible last year against Hendry and Selby are a fairer reflection of his talents, but there is a chance that Hawkins maybe a player who just isn't able to perfom up to his usual standards at the Crucible.
