  • Another 147 chance,but the pockets aren't big !!

Anybody think the pockets are ridiculously big in the world champs this year ? They remind me of the starline tables I use to practice on for a laugh.Compared to the labour club tables, they were like the equivalent of a 12 foot 9 ball table. Are the wsa frightened of showing the pro`s missing !

I have been thinking that the holes seems to be quite forgiving, as the balls often bounce and then fall. But it´s equal to everyone so never mind.

Absolutely not, the pockets look tighter if anything than previous years. The players make them look easy. Believe me if you were to play on them you'd struggle to make a break above 30.

....agree, and I think they are as tight as anything I've seen in the game over the years, the top rail and bottom are especially unforgiving.

Some balls have stayed out that had no reason to....

          Lol....xx

What would be the point of making the pockets tight?more safety battles? people want to see big breaks and amazing pots, thats why the pockets are generous.Imo, people are over rating the current crop of players. As of making a break of 30,thats pretty amazing you can tell my standard of play off 12 forum posts!

The pockets are tighter than anything! I remember last year when they played the junior pot black in the crucible the players said the pockets were tighter than what they were used to, and these are the top junior players in Britain.

I´ve been struggling since I picked up playing snooker
Still in Kings match agains Selby I saw the balls bouncing at several occasions and then fall. It was shots I wouldn´t expect to fall where I play.

Yes, I'm very observant, I can tell everything about you just from your posts.

I've played on these match tables and I can tell you they are tight. These posts come up every year and people say the pockets are big, believe me if they were don't you think that these players would never miss?
Also, the cameras are very close to the tables in the crucible and when zoomed in it can make the effect on your 36"+ TV screens that the pocket is massive.

I Totally agree with CUEMAN.Its the television lights, the cream leather pockets and the standard of the players that make the pocket look bigger.

Bet you can tell a hustler a million miles away as well ,you got any money left?

As far as playing on the match tables, well have you played on the current tables on tv? very much doubt it,you`d be making twenty breaks!!
The difference between the good amateurs and the pro`s is the quality/connsistency of the strike not the accuracy of the potting.Balls are going in which shouldn`t. You keep believing, but all that glitters is not gold :snooker:

I've been playing for nearly 30 years, plenty of tournaments over the years, I think the professional tables/pockets are easier to play on.

Everyone agrees that the tables run true? The players would all be up in arms if not!
A ball can't run off,so straight away a professional table is easier to play on

Having said that, I used to play at a particular club, one of the two 'match' tables there the owner told me had the same size pockets they use in the qualifiers, (at the time in Blackpool) it was very very tight, but the table ran very true also.
I'd say the table was too tight though as you couldn't pot a ball down the cushion with any pace at all, and to pot anything with pace you had to virtually put the ball right down the middle of the pocket.

My guess is that the qualifying tables pockets are a bit tighter.
Hence another reason no one want's to have to qualify.

TV and sponsors dictate that big break's are what viewers want to see, so hence the tables are very very nice to play on.

I don't think most players now would survive on the tables from the early 80's!!!:snooker:

The pockets are the same on any table on the pro tour (i.e. very tight).

the only thing that looks rediculously easy this year is how the players are playing so well, this is the most enjoyable year for a long time
