You don't just write off a prodigy that has won 3 ranking tournaments at his age.. He will be back, losing badly is a big learning curve.

Hendry used to practise with Steve Davis at the start of his career, and was getting beat 9-0 after 9-0, but because he learnt from losing, he eventually built his scores up, and conclusively started beating him more times than losing!

I was outside the stage door after the last session he played with Ronnie, and he was all smiles, positive. he is not the kind of person to become disgruntled by being beaten by Ronnie.

The same can be said about Maguire who was a regular practise partner with Hendry back in his hey-day. Here's what he said about it in 2004:

"I went through the first couple of years just picking out balls for him. I was just fielding them all the time. You can imagine coming in and getting beaten 15-0 and then having to show up in the next day. It was tough. But it sets you in good stead. He certainly wasn't one for just letting you win a couple of frames."

So getting beaten heavily can actually be a good thing.
