  • BBC Coverage...

    Hello,

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the BBC coverage. Have been waiting for the Hendry match all evening - and they have chosen the Doherty Allen match instead for Snooker extra.

Is this just my unluckiness? Anyone else noticed this?

Also - a few days ago I managed to miss the first session of O'Sullivan v Ding - thought I would check out the BBC website to see if there was a clip on there...
No such luck - Davis v Colin Murray.

The BBC is providing a load of coverage but some, if not most, of the audience need a couple of chances to get to see the match they want.

Why should the world championship not be made available to a worldwide audience over the net??!!

They aren't showing the Hendry match because they showed it this afternoon. They only showed a small amount of highlights from the Doherty vs Aleen match.

Because there is not the demand for it (No viewers = no advertising, no advertising = no revenue, no revenue = no money to purchase the programmes), and BBC can't stream it to the world because the world does not pay a licence fee.

Eurosport is better than BBC- it shows 3 times day for 3-4 hours!

I would pay, but they don't give you the opportunity...

Being unemployed I get to watch it from 10am to 6pm I like the coverage.
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

Nope, no more snooker on Eurosport for now. The BBC stream is working nicely again, though.

I was quite enjoying that technician bloke bobbing up and down in the cue zone. Took them rather a while to get the proper picture on though.

Regarding BBC not being able to broadcast internationally due to license fees, that's what BBC Worldwide are for. I think there'd be enough interest to make it worthwhile, video streaming is cheap enough, it just depends how much WSA would want for the license (you'd think they'd be keen). I don't know whether Eurosport have the rights already or not.

Eurosport do a good job of bringing the game to a wider audience, but it's worth remembering that they're only feeding off the BBC's pictures and sticking a couple of fellas in a room with a microphone. By comparison, TWI (who do the snooker for the BBC) put a hell of an effort in, all things considered I don't think we could expect much more from them.

I sympathise for those who are at work most of the day, but with around 24 hours of snooker per day (two tables), there's only so much they can show. You have a point about their choice of highlights online though.

It's worth mentioning there are stream capture programs, some with scheduling options (though this is of limited value unless you know for sure which stream will show what). You can then play them back at your leisure just as if you had recorded them off TV.

This is the first World Championship in which I can really watch the matches, and I'm on heaven let me tell you.

I'm a big Hendry fan, though I'll be the first to admit that he had better get it together if he plans to fulfill his ambition. Fraid I fancy Ronnie as clear favorite for the title at the moment. Anyone have that match? I was unable to see a single frame of his victory over Ding, and would dearly love to.

Well today Horse racing is deemed more important than the World Championships. I am watching it on interactive but would prefer to watch it on BBC2 because they usually have good extras and features but no they are showing horse racing. It wouldn't be as bad if they just showed the race but they prefer to have 15 minutes worth of build up then the race lasts a couple of minutes. Then when you think its over, wrong, they show the race over and over again each time showing it in a slower frame.
