  • Postcard from Sheffield – Day 6

    Evening all.

Just a quick note from Sheffield as the library closes in 10 minutes!

Paul, you'll be glad to know that Richard Beare has added to his inventory of errors, introducing Stephen Maguireinto his 'fourth appearance at the world ranking championships'!

Mark Williams, in line to better John Parrott's record of twelve years without ever having lost in the first round, did just that in this, his eleventh appearance. Matthew Stevens is next able to equal Parrott, having won his tenth straight first-rounder this week.

Mark Selby was 5-0 down and, finding himself in a tricky snooker, joked to Stephen Lee, "How's the table playing, is it all right?" whereupon he took the next 8 frames before winning 10-7 yesterday. Lee was the sixth seed to go out in round one.

I should be posting the forst round prediction results tomorrow; I have not looked at them yet.

Wish you were here; now not only if you have an umbrella.
