Look at almost any frame from a certain WOrld Championship of a few years ago – I think it was about 2001 – and almost invariably a couple of reds will have smothered the black on the break-off.
A different year around the same time, a red often found its way down the table to level with the blue or further.
This year's break-off trait, I have noticed, is that the corner red, on the other side of the table from the side the player is breaking from, quite often goes directly across the table and returns to almost its original position – sometimes artistically exactly.
I suppose players may alter their break-off to allow for the fast tables, or perhaps the tables just do this this year, but I wondered if anyone else had noticed.
