Just watching frame 23 again and Shaun missed the blue by a mile, landing it behind the pink and snookered the pocket for Matthew. But the run can't account for everything.

Who's next for him? Either way, he won't beat Higgins/Ronnie in the final. They won't stumble around.

        • Ugh, so looks like the final for him, unless Mark Selby somehow isn't nervous in his first semi. If it's Carter he might as well have a walkover.

            • I actually feel ill. I was looking forward to seeing Stevens win then I could go down the club and have a good few hours of practise. Now when I am practising I'll be wishing the reds were Murphy's face. Quite a lot of similarities though, red face, fat and round so it shouldn't be too hard.

                  • I'd cry too if I gave such a big lead away.

Haha, he did that after the Parrott game. From where I was sitting I couldn't see for sure but it looked like some lad tried but failed to catch it and it bounced and landed down the back of a seat. Nobody bothered to try and get it.

I try to refrain from calling anyone on a public forum so I will simply add that that result has made me very cross indeed!

                          • OH MY Here's me waking up this morning to Stevens leading 11-5. Then I'm not able to watch the match, look at the scoreline hours after the match and see THIS???? *faints*

Credit where credit is due though: Murphy must have put up one heck of a fight. Hats off to that. The downside is of course he'll be even smugger now... *sighs*

And I feel like giving Matthew Stevens a hug or two, he must be absolutely devestated! Poor chap...

                            • Matthew must be gutted after that but he can't really blame anyone but himself. He reminds me a lot of Jimmy White in that he has a lot of ability but lacks the bottle to win matches. Shaun deserves a lot of credit though, a lot of players would have given in but the self belief and confidence he has in his own ability reminds me a lot of a younger Hendry.

On the other side of it I wonder what this does to Stevens career. Out of the top 16, losing a match that could haunt him for a long time and having to qualify against very good players down at Pontins. He isn't the best player in best of 9 frame matches either and this could lead to a similar slide we have seen from Jimmy White. I hope not but its a very real possibility as many players have dropped out the top 16 in the past that has seen the start of the demise in their career.
