There are many, many occasions where he has missed these things, yesterday he respotted the white ca 8-10 cm from its original position so that Ronnie was faced with a much more difficult shot. A few days before he respotted the pink on the blue spot when the black spot was free by a huge margin. Ebdon (I think) had to tell him before he realised his blunder. Also, in my own opinion, he quite often gets red in the face or starts to sweat a lot and his voice can sound stressed in certain situations.

Saying that, I of course wish him all the best for the final.

I can understand it when a player is down on the table and nearly touching a ball when leaning over a ball. But he also does it when it is a common shot. Personally I would be irritated if a ref would stand so close to me. (it will never apply to me though as I am not in the pro league).

I wonder what Alex Higgins would have thought about it. He was already annoyed with the ref if he was standing in line of the ball. He once asked ref Ganley to move, but he refused. Ended up in a barney! lol

...........yes, I've noticed Jan does it also for a common shot too. And if I'm honest, I'd be a wee bit peeved as well, if he stood too close.

[And not sure how you elevate from 'a league' to pro league, but the only way is up.]..

..........thanks for that, and yes, I do remember yesterday's respot with Ron, and didn't see Ebbo's incident.

And yes, I have seen Eirian a little red in the face at times, bless him, can't be easy, and must admit even though I'm a confident so and so, do go a bit red myself when I'm a bit stressed.

And I'm proud really of all the refs for the job they do, can't be easy....

I have not noticed those mistakes as I have not watched too many matches due to the weather. If this happened he is not up for the final imo.

He's not a bad ref really. I do remember him putting a tomato on the pink spot instead of the pink ball by mistake once though. Luckily, one of the players spotted his error!

Yeah Eiren is a very good ref- we can't see him at the table and can just concetrate on play-so good he is reffering

I think Eirian William's strength is his no-nonsense crowd control and looking after the players - making sure theyre not bothered by anything or anyone in the crowd or arena. This makes him a good choice for major finals.

I think all the refs struggle with respotting the balls, and hadnt yet noticed Eirian being any worse than any of the others. But if other members have noticed this I dont doubt its true.

Its a shame Alan Chamberlain doesnt get to do more finals. He's the senior ref after all, and never shies away from difficult decisions. You can tell he obviously enjoys some of the matches he's reffing too. I know thats not the point its just kind of good to see that somehow.

Its not easy for a respot, but I have been to some tournees and he really makes a shambles of it. Sorry. If you dont know, ask for the video, but he did not.

It was indeed John Williams. It was another incident with Ganley when he threatened him at a post match. Before he headbutted a journalist at the bar.

It was Len's son, Michael (who may have been tournament director at the time), who Alex head butted at the Crucible one year. Nothing personal, Michael was just a faceless figure of authority, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong lime. lol, Good shot Alex!

Yeah I'm so agree with you! I had -3 reps in Hendry V Carter topic, and they were all anonymouses without really explaining what the matter!

what about Michaela Tabb? i think she would do well, though i dun really pay too much attention, they're supposed to be transparent. jan verhaas is a more authoritative figure, i guess.
