After the semi with Murphy, I believed Selby could go all the way and win the Championship. He didn't and a part of me is sorry, but I am also genuinly happy for Higgie, he totally deserved it. Now I know we'll be seeing much more of Selby in the years to come, and who knows, he may have a W.Ch. in his pocket somewhere...

It killed me dead and I died a thousand deaths during that last session but...

JOHN HIGGINS* IS THE WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, John! Finally a place alongside the other greats of snooker who have won it twice. So deserved.

And now for the whiskey. I'll drink to this with my last single malt.

                    • Let me one thousandth post be for this.

Congratulations John Higgins on your second world title. It could scarcely have happened to a nicer and better player.

                      Well done!

                      • well done and congrats to John Higgins!

but still awwwwww, as I had my hopes up for Mark Selby after that tremendous afternoon session. Wouldn't that have been such a Cinderella story, and who doesn't like those? Guess the tide turned again in the final session, right from the start one could feel, that Higgins had his confidence back. But 'well done' to Mark to give us such an interesting final. Who would have thought after the first day it would ever last that long and even break last year's record!

I left the game at 12-14, well after midnight here, to get some sleep and preserve raw nerves. (will have to catch up on the final frames today somehow)

And congrats elvaago (rep power 3 man as well, another early joiner here)
edit: oh, I also made it a nice number of posts! (1400)

                        • I have posted my congratulations to Higgs on the other thread and will praise ZELBZ in this post here :

Mark Selby gets my personal medal for this tournament! What a guy! Amazing shots, GREAT come back! What a thoroughly GREAT final this turned out to be after all! Please note all the exclamation marks I'm using! I'm very much looking forward to see him play in the next season, as I am now officially a Fan Of Zelbz! Way to go and Kudos

Though how I will get through today I do not know, 2:30 in bed is way too late for me - but i did ask for a nice and thrilling evening session and got one, so that's quite OK...

                          • Well done John, I think it would have been a bit of a travesty if he'd lost that final and its long overdue that Higgins added to his other world title.

I have a little sympathy for Selby although at one point I was angry because he was definitely using gamesmanship with the amount of time he was taking over certain shots. If it was Ebdon doing this everyone would be critical of him.
He knew that he'd got John on the ropes but there was no need for some of the lengthy time he took over quite straightforward safety shots. He was trying to get into John's head and it worked in the early part of the evening session but I think Higgins class and determination saw him through.

                            • Exciting final and I am relieved John won.

Great fightback by Selby but I think it is a shame to use that kind of slowplay-tacticts against a true sportsman like John.

Also, as I have stated before, the Crucible should not be a place where a nobody (in terms of rankingevents) comes in and wins his first tournament! You should earn your success!

                              • Well done to John, he held his nerves, and totally deserved to win.

Good performance from Selby, although he did play rather slow, and I don't think I ever saw a pro being so bad at getting out of snookers.
