  • The Worlds; 1977 to 2001

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/engli...story/1977.stm

A 'potted' history from Clive Everton of all the Crucible finals upto 2001... I knew there was a section on the WC's, but not this specific one and all the links off it are pretty good too.

Ranen'll like the page descibing Ronnie's first Championship; frame by frame detail kid! He beat Ebbo that year too... bit of history betw them.
Head Still... Follow Through... Keep it Tight... Never Give Up... Ton 'em if you can!

    Man,it's a superb link!
It's such a pleasure for a young snooker fan like me to learn more about the glorious history of the sport.
Of course I know the story of some of the finals but I like these detailed reviews.
    Long live Sir Rodney Walker!!!

Have a look at these shots>>>http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/in_d...ip/1271843.stm
Go to "shots of the champs" on the right.

I was really impressed by Ronnies screwback ability......just toooooo much!
Hamiltos snooker behind the pink....wow no words for that!
        Wallace snooker break.....very well done!
**Ronnies shot of the black with top left side...........man thats the most difficult shot for me.....have never ever been able to play that!!!
Higgins shot for the red next to the pink.....great thinking!!!
And again great shot by Ronnie!!!!

PS:** Thats the shot I was telling you about. I can do it from the opposite side of the table with top right hand side but not what Ronnie did.....I can just dream of it!

Also never knew Ronnie was banned for 2 years.

Where did you read that Ronnie was banned? I remember him getting a slap on the wrist for failing a drugs test after the Irish Masters one year, but I don't think he was banned for it.

Some great shots in that video. Ronnie's straight black was I think the best of the lot, but under no real pressure. Higgin's development of the red was brilliant.

Check the 1996 World champs. He was banned for two years for hitting somebody.

Ronnie received a suspended ban (not sure how long) after he attacked a tournament official during the World Championships one year.

Ah yes of course, forgot about that, a young Mike Ganley. I don't think he'd get off so lightly attacking Mike these days in his new job. Does anyone know what exactly happened just out of interest? Depending on who you believe, he either bit, punched or headbutted the guy, and I still don't know what provoked it.

Ranen - a suspended ban doesn't have any effect unless the offender reoffends during the suspension period (see here). It's a kind of yellow card.

He did actually break the rules again during that 2 year period, the cannabis use I mentioned, but they officially decided the offences were too different to warrant calling up the suspended ban (or as some suspect, they couldn't afford to lose Ronnie's ticket selling power).

That's right, it was Mike Ganley. I think he headbutted him, or was that Alex Higgins. I could be completely wrong but something is telling me that Ronnie refused to provide a urine sample for a drug test.

I thought that Ronnie lost his Irish Masters title after in his urine was found a restricted medicament. Am I wrong?
I didn't know about this accident with Mike Ganley...

lol That incident seems to have taken by surprise. Though it was ten years ago.
Ten years ago I didnt even know what snooker was.
