  • Preferred event format?

If the WSA added another event to next season's calendar, what type of event would you most like to see?

My vote goes to a seniors tournament of some kind, ideally a short format (but not single frame) knockout tournament. I'm a pretty new fan and never had the opportunity to see the old masters at work, I think it could be an entertaining addition. Reardon, Davis, Thorne, Virgo, Thorburn, Griffiths, maybe even Alex Higgins could be persuaded to join in.

Fair enough, a top 16 only Masters style thing then?

I've voted for a team or double's event. I used to really enjoy the doubles events during the 80's, especially when Meo and Davis teamed up to win! The nations cup was good too, players actually playing for their countries and also the tactics used by the captain, picking which player should play against the opposition. Many amatuer league players can relate to that and how it feels to play a single frame of snooker. It certainly changes your approach to the game and its nice to see how players handle a different sort of pressure.

I like the idea of a short match nations cup like cueman said. But I voted for a league style tournament. I think this would be good, like a football world cup format. Play maybe 6 frame matches, so draws are possible, then you can have a goal difference type scenario for when scores are tied, it would go down to who had the best frames won/lost ratio, then as a last resort if scores were still tied, who scored the most points.

I'd like to see a team event with knockout fixtures only. Something like the Mosconi Cup in pool but with more participants. It's a good way to proove which nation is snooker greatest at the particular moment.

It'd be another ranking event for me, even though a double/mixed competition would be fun too.

I vote a Nations/World Cup event. Knowing the WSA, they wouldn't fancy it so Barry Hearn and crew should do it.

i would like to see a tournament where the top 16 professionals are drawn against the top 16 juniors or female players. It would mae interesting viewing and also give great experience to the junior players. Obviously the tournament would be an invitational event.

Ah ha, I was beginning to think no one was interested in the junior game. Good idea that I think.

You could even have a tournament with pros, amateurs, women, seniors and juniors alike, possibly with a handicap system to level the playing field. I always feel it doesn't mean a lot to win a handicap event, but if played in good spirits like Pot Black it could be entertaining.

I reckon for the game to move forward they need to have a proper "world" tour. I reckon 10 ranking events in a season. 96 players on the main tour plus 32 qualifiers at each event.

The obvious example is the China Open which has been a real success. For the game to grow in other countries more ranking events need to be made available, for example there is a german open each year. Why not make more people aware of it and make it a ranking event?

Or another idea would be to make it more like tennis with loads of tournaments worldwide and all of them counting towards the rankings.

For the game and the players, another ranking event must be best, if not the most exciting.
A league like the premier league shown on terrestrial television would also be good but I would love to see any of them happen, the more snooker the better

i think with, a potential 8 months of play, 8 ranking tournaments would be the maximum. Otherwise it will be overkill. Apart from the 8 rankers, there will be also The Masters and The premier league. Out of the 8 rankers they should try to have a main event in europe to promote the game again. Also The UK should have a final, best of 33. Since The UK had a final of best of 19, it has lost its grandeur to me. It was really the BIG event second to the crucible. Now it seems just to be another ranking event

I agree about the UK final, it's still referred to as the second biggest tournament but a best of 33 would be much better and bridge the gap between other ranking tournaments and the World Championship.

I think there is enough ranking events at the moment. I'd like to see more televised though.
You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman
