I would be surprised if they were the reasons for him not taking part. We all know how competitive Jimmy is, so maybe it's more of a personal nature. All the same it's disappointing..

Why would Jimmy have gone to the trouble of entering and paying an entry fee if he wasn't interested?

Like anybody , I'm sure he has other things on his plate and something probably just came up at the last minute.

Yes, it's disappointing. In the first Pro Challenge series had an excuse - other program. Today? Why?
A Challenge for the next series Jimmy certainly will not be Disappointment.

Jimmy's entries are put into events by his management team, and sometimes he's made a date or commitment that they might not know when they do his entries.

On this occasion, same as at Leeds event, Jimmy had already committed himself to something else.

Funniest moment so far today was Ryan Day.
The players have been issued with stop clocks to time any maximum breaks.
These clocks are very simple! Big button to START, big button to STOP
Pot the first red, bang the button, and whizz in the break.
Ryan potted his red, thought this looks a good chance, hit the button, flew round the table, made his maximum, rushed back to stop the clock, but pressed start instead of stop and wiped his time off.
So Stuart Pettman's 2 minutes 31 seconds, which is the fastest anywhere currently on record, still stands.

The previous highest officially timed 6 red max was by Saleh Mohammed in the 2008 Sangsom 6 reds, at 2 minutes 54 second.

This article on the Eurosport website says that the event is at the Northern Snooker Centre, isn't it at Pontin's?

yes - still £500, he would have been the fastest.

As it happens I bumped into one of Jimmy's team today so I asked what happend and was told that an "assistant" saw the forms come into their office and realised it was a very short closing date so thought they'd better get the entry in. Better safe than sorry.

It wasn't til a few days later that they knew that Jimmy had another engagement this week.

Incidentally Joe Delaney pulled out cos he was ill (man flu!)
And Ian Preece had been waiting for a hospital appointment and naturally they confirmed it for this week after he'd put his entry in.
