Rankings / Players 65-72 ???

Does anybody have an updated version who is in with a good chance of staying on and falling off the tour this season. A list also of what players are in the positions of 65-72 to stay on the one year rankings.

I have the list it is the players on the one year list who get entry onto the main tour next season who are not ranking in the top 64 after the world championships, if you private me your e-mail I will send you the latest list

Madman If its easy to explain in a post would you mind explaining to me what is the significance of positions 65-72. For the rankings I've always looked at www.worldsnooker.com which gives the rankings and provisional rankings after every tournament. I always thought that so long as you were in the top 90ish you were OK to stay on the main tour for next year. Can you fill me in?

Hi,

As far as i know, only the players that finish in the top 64 of the two year official list are guaranteed their places on the tour for next season. The next 32 places are made up of the following or as near as................

8 Players that finish outside the top 64 keep their places if they have secured the most points on the one year ranking list. So that that gives you players for places 1-72.

There are another 8 places awarded to players who finish in the top 8 of the pios. (The pontins international open series)

World snooker decide upon 1 wild card.

Then all around the world, the National Governing Amateur Bodies are awarded places for their countries who they decide are worthwhile nominating, by winning there countries national competitions. Be it by a one off national championship or a ranking series as the English do.

So roughly............

English get 2 places
Scottish 1
welsh 1
Rep of ireland 1
Northern ireland 1
Oceana 1
Europe 3 ( That includes the 2 places below for European & Under 21)
Asia 3

Then the other places are awarded to any players that are elegible to enter and win the.....

Ibsf World Champioships 1
Ibsf World Under 21's 1

European Championships 1
European under 19's 1

Basically everyone from 73 to 96 drops off the main tour. If you're on the MT and finish in the 65-72 position then you remain on the tour. The rest of the96 for the next year are made up with 8 from the PIOS, World Amateur & European champions and NGB's winners etc.

Is this how Neil Robertson made it on the tour? I know he won the Australian open snooker championships in 2002, so would he maby have recieved his tour entry from winning this. I've only started really following snooker again in the last year, and to see an Aussie doing so well is amazing.

Looks like from the above, the match between jimmy and probably patrick wallace in the world qualifier will be massive..time to bite the finger nails again.

Yes. Neil Robertson won 'The Ibsf World Under 21 Championships' in 2003, in New Zealand, beating Lu Song in the final 11-5. He won his national tournament, then was selected to represent Australia in the World Under 21's.

By winning this event, qualified him for a ticket for the 'World Professional Tour'. Having turned professional a couple of seasons earlier, he was unable to keep his place and was relegated. Being such a brilliant player, he then got a second chance some 7 years ago by winning the World under 21's, and has never looked back, and has gone on to establish himself in the top 8 in the world, winning along the way 4 ranking events.:snooker:

Not necessarily. The top 64 are safe then the top 8 on the one year list below that stay on. David Gray and Ian Preece finished in 65th and 66th I think and only remained on tour due to the wildcard.

Yes you can still finish 65-72 and not stay on the tour. As you say, Gray, Preece and Norman got Wildcards for some unknown reason.

Thats why you have the one year ranking list as i explained earlier. After ranking 64, its the next 8 players with the best ranking points achieved for that season. So just because you see a player ranked 68th, on the two year list, does not guarantee his place unless you check the one year list.

Yeah you're right, I was talking about the 1 year list and tried to qualify it with a 'basically' at the beginning. IMO this confusion over the rankings does the game no favours either. There should be 1 ranking list not 3!

It doesn't seem to be quite as open as last year as beyond the top 10 on the one-year list not already inside the top 64, the next few players are already in the 64 and so not a direct threat. Only really Baird and Woollaston within range. I posted my thoughts on my blog here yesterday together with the appropriate links which might help you.

Must admit I love this time of year, I get into the whole ranking points battle etc more than I probably should!

Alternativelly, global-snooker.com looks handy for 1-year rankings.

Edit: alright, the handiest rankings seem to be in Matt's blog - top 8 guys from 1-yr list likelly to stay on tour are marked in yellow.

Stange there are no 1-year rankings in worldsnooker.com as they are used in determining who stays on the tour.

Must admit I love this time of year, I get into the whole ranking points battle etc more than I probably should!

And this year you've got 2 months be4 next event to get even deeper


Last year there was more than 1 wildcard awared because winners of some championships were the same/somebody opted not to join the tour, right? Any chance this year there would be more than 1 wildcard?
