The World Championship qualifiers are in 2-3 weeks though, that's the big one for these players.

I think that there probably will be more than one wildcard, for starters I'm not sure what the situation is in Scotland at the moment. A couple of month ago they had their tour place taken away due to various issues within the national body, I'm not sure if that situation has been resolved yet? If not then that will presumably be one.

Then if Glen Wilkinson wins the Oceania Championship for the third year in a row then that will probably be one as well.

The qualifying ranking points (position) have always confused me - with players on both ranking lists in different positions - there MUST be an easier way.
I always believe GSC foe ranking points etc. & results but was just looking at China Open to see how a couple of players fared and their ranking position now and noticed - players losing first round match got 280 points and players winning one more match and losing in second round got 910 - is this right? Does seem a huge difference for one match?

Its because any player no matter what round they first enter the comp gets half the ranking points for losing their first match. This is why its so important for every player regardless of their ranking to win their initial game.

Also, the points tally changed this season. The worlds, The Uk's, and the Welsh stayed as they were, but in the Shanghai, The China and The Grand-prix, were/are awarded more points.

If you win your 1st round matches, which has already been said are the most important, you now get 910 points instead of 650 points for those 3 events. If you lose you now get 280 points instead of 200 points. But the Welsh has stayed at the old points of 200/650.

Plus the changes in points follow all the way through to the later rounds. If a player could win his 1st round matches in all events, this should/would probably be enough to keep him on the tour for the following season, on the one year rankings at least.

But look how tough even that can be!!!!!!!!

If both Jimmy White and John Parrot misses a place, I can´t imagine that they won´t get a wild card, as they´ve both achieved so much more than David Gray. But I honestly don´t think they should have one.

Maybe this current system is too harsh on the playeers already on the main tour. Take Craig Steadman for example, in his first season on the main tour, he has won many matches, and got to the final qualifying round in at least one tournament. Despite all this he only finishes 76th on the one year list, and will be booted off unless he gets a wildcard.

Maybe there should be less turnaround every year, with less players being booted out every year, giving the rookies in particular more chance to establish themselves.....

Yes with the few tournaments this season a poor match at the cruicible qualifiers was costly. The same goes for several other players, and also for the decision of top 32, where Higginson probably won´t make it now even though he has had a fine season.

Thanks, has been difficult during the event this year unfortunately with the travelling and having to balance work etc but hey ho. Have updated my lists now.
