  • Live Scoring Abysmal!!!!!!

Janie, any idea why world snooker are having so much trouble with the live scoring. I mean, its not like its never happened before, this has been going on for a few years now. How can a major organisation act so abysmally.

Is it really rocket science to get this up and functioning correctly. Can they just not get in some computer experts who deal with faults of this nature and get it put right once and for all. I am absolutely sick and tired of trying to follow the live scores on world snooker, and they are always crashing.

What an advert they put out to the whole world. Does Hearny not yet know about this problem? Lets hope he pulls his finger out and gets this sorted for the next event. And if it is still the same computer guys running the live scoring, can you ask Hearn to please sack them, because they are absolutely, bloody useless!

Maybe, when I graduate from computer engineering, I should work on some kind of a live scoring system

Or maybe I would have to deal with such kind of projects as an under graduate

Nevertheless, world snooker organization needs to solve this dilemma before I come up with my own solutions..

You could earn yourself a fortune montoya10. Get a system up and running as a project, and you will be made. Good Luck!

This has been said many times before, you will have to wait for the new world snooker website to be launched before the scoring is sorted out properly.

I have a solution for the live scoring which would greatly reduce their server load and resolve the problems they are having but it is not in my hands to resolve this problem it is for their new IT company to resolve.

We are not allowed to put the live scoring up on TSF, shame because if we were it would help to reduce the load on their server and maybe just maybe stop the scoring from freezing altogether.

Thanks for your nice wish, madman

I'll start working on such a dynamic system. I don't know the exact qualifications I will need, but I hope to have a base knowledge of those at the end of this summer..

Maybe for the next year, I could offer my project to Mr. Hearn

Any news about the launching date of the website? I haven't read about it on TSF before, probably because I haven't been around for quite a while. But I'm glad to hear the news, and if they are to change the access to the tournament information sections as well, it's going to be even better. I've failed to get used to the sliding bar to go to a tournament page.

It was ok at 10am this morning for a while, then froze dramatically and still has hardly moved. Complete rubbish.

But why has this problem occured so often, the last few seasons in fact. I am not computer literate, so what is it that actually causes this system to freeze? If it is just that so many people are trying to use it at once, why has the system not been upgraded in all this time?

There are many other sites that use live scoring without all this hassle, so what are world snooker actually waiting for?

It is very poor. Scoring really is that simple to do. You could actually type the scores in a chat room style set up. Something so basic. There should be no problems with scoring, it's so easy.

Try making a website and running it yourself then beechy, I'll be fully behind it.

I wouldn't know how to but come on, it can't be difficult to do with all the resources World Snooker will have.

I was saying that you could sit me, you are anyone in an arena, log onto a chat room and type whats going on. Obvioulsy not as good as live scoring but the point is that even something so basic would work.

I wouldn't all go rushing out to develop a new scoring system because it's been done and is in situ and working at the new academy in Gloucester.
they've even remodelled the zappers to make the even easier for the refs to handle with gloves on.

WSA have just rebooted it again. It seems to be crashing at the venue at source and I don't think that's a server load issue to do with the website.

For some reason it has always crashed on the system at sheffield, whereas it always worked much better at Pontin's, usually worked okay at uk venue events but always crashes in China.

WSA have a new raft of stats and scoring under development. It was announced the Crucible and the guys were here on Thursday and Friday testing stuff.

well I'd guess the concept is this ... ref with zapper presses button ... zapper transmits to local receiver ... local receiver transmits via wi-fi or more likely good old wire to PC at venue ... local PC updates the WPBSA main server(s) so everybody can access it ...

what could possibly go wrong with that? well I dunno but here's a couple of options (with odds) ...

stroppy player, disappointed at missing a crucial shot, thinks he's some kind of Darth Vader and smashes the whole caboodle up with his light sabre (aka cue) ... Mark Williams 2/1 ... Steve Davis 10/1 ... Peter Ebdon evens ... Ronnie O'Sullivan 1/3 ... Michael Holt 1/8 ...

or more likely, Janie Watkins from www.global-snooker.com spills her drink all over it but only because she's been working *so* hard and doing a great job keeping us all updated ...

I know this will come as a shock to everyone, but WSA live scoring has failed AGAIN.
