                  Indeed,a few big names competing but he would have xpected to win.

                  Would that count as a "major title" even though it wasn't ranking. I'm thinking along the same lines as Premier League, Pot black etc.

                    I wouldn't consider it a major title myself. The majors are UK Open, Masters, World Championship and some people consider the Grand Prix a major as well.

                        It's not a major. It is what it's title says, the Professional Championship for Ireland. Years ago, lots of countries held a National Professional Championship, all the home nations did plus, Canada (or North America), Australia, South Africa ...
