  • Snooker Film

I am a young film maker and would like to write a screenplay about the sport we all know and love, snooker. I'm just researching at the moment but I would very much like to know how an everyday joe bloggs actually enters the snooker arena. I want to know how you get into the amatuer scene, how you get from the amatuer scene and into the professional circuit, and waht type of time frame it all takes place. If anybody knows, or can point me in the direction of any websites that know, i'd be very much appreciative.
    Many thanks

I think that reading the (auto)biographies of some great players like Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, Ronnie O'Sullivan would help. They can certainly give you facts, but they can also help you understand the atmosphere, the relationships, the frame (!...) of mind of these so special people. I would also try to find as many interviews in the newspapers as I could lay my hands on and, why not, compare what the players SAY to what they actually DO. And of course, talking to snooker players ( pro/am ) is the most important thing. Make them talk about themselves and about the others ( ). I'm sure you will do something really interesting. Good luck !

Hey, it could be cool to make a portrait movie on one of the great players... You know built on the true story of one of the legends...

O'Sullivan could be a great candidate ... He has indeed experienced quite a lot. It could be cool if somebody made a movie about him based on his autobiography. There would be matters enough to make a rather action packed movie...

But to keep it down on earth: you can find lots of interviews with the great players on the net. I only know articles on O'Sullivan...

      Here are some great ones:

(On page 23 you find an interview with Ronnie about his relationship to his father and the British prison service...)

      Hope this will help
