    • Well these qualification rounds are quite intensive. I wonder if the older players still have the energy and the resilience to go through them succesfully. Both started brilliantly, then crumbled. If Jimmy is tired, it will be a demolition tonight! Not what I want ... but don't have a say

      • Jimmy Michie seemed to have the energy and resilience to get through. Good on him...he's a top lad is Mr Michie....

        • Doesnt look like Drago can get through in group B either, even if he beats Wattana and McBain looses, Michie will keep second place, leaving Tony third.

So a promising start by two old favourites comes to nothing.
It might sound strange, but I consider Tony's 3rd place as a good result. He will get 1125 ranking points (I guess), that's certainly more than nothing. It was clear after yesterdays defeat against Tom Ford (who played very well all tournament) that he couldn't qualify, but to ensure finishing 3rd or 4th in the group he had to beat Wattana, which he did, so well done.

Jimmy's 3rd place is OK as well, but of course after the promising start it's a bit of a disappointment for his fans.

          • so, stage 2 partly looks like this (hopefully got that right):
            Group 2A
            Neil Robertson
            Stephen Lee
            Joe Perry
            Joe Swail
            Mark Davis
            Jimmy Michie

            Group 2B
            Ronnie O’Sullivan
            Steve Davis
            Dominic Dale
            Gerard Greene
            Tom Ford
            Mark Joyce

            Group 2C
            Peter Ebdon
            Mark Selby
            Matthew Stevens
            Dave Harold
            Joe Delaney
            Liu Song

            Group 2D
            Shaun Murphy
            Ding Junhui
            Stuart Bingham
            Marco Fu
            Stuart Pettman
            Ben Woollaston

and poor Jimmy, I totally forgot that he has to play a premier league game tonight...
and let me throw in here as well: go Neil!

            • You have mixed up the winners of group A and B.
The winners of group A are actually Mark Davis and Mark Joyce and Group B Jimmy Michie and Tom Ford.

EDIT: Thanks for spotting the mistake elvaago.

Pretty unkind comment dont you think?. I am sure even Ding finished last at least once in some tournament.

                        • He's obviously got lots of talent, but competing with pros is going to be a shock to the system for him probably as the standard is so high.
Anyway its good experience and he should take the positives from it. What about this new 16 yr old Liu Chuang? He seems like a very good player, he reached the Quarter finals of the Masters qualifying and he also looks like a good prospect. On the World Snooker site Daniel Wells said he was awesome for such a young player. (I'm certainly not suggesting you become his no 1 fan nardiello!).
But their only young players, you've got give them time to adjust, of course.

Currently John Parrott is playing, and noteworthy comeback from Adrian Gunnell saw him come from 3-0 down against Alan Mcmanus, to win 3-4.

Mugello, you're right, we just shouldn't build players up like that. Thou shalt not worship false idols, only Ding Junhui
