I seriously hope they stop doing group phases in Grand Prix and Malta Cup. Most games are boring and with no passion/emotion whatsoever.
Why??? I like them for the grand prix as they give more players a chance and you get to see younger and lower ranked players but i do agree some matches do become dead....and for the malta cup well thats just a knock about without any real importance...
Got to have a bit of variety in the game....

Because there's nothing like the emotion of a knocl-out stage.
But also, there are alot of matches that don't really count for anything since it always happens that one player is already through and the other doesn't have the chance of going through. Also remember a few top players criticising it last year.

I do agree that some pointless matches are a bit dull. However the only players that critisised it were the ones that got knocked out in the groups...and if every tournament was just a straight 32 player knockout it would get a bit boring...for the worlds and uk and a couple of others its good but as i said snooker needs a VARIETY of tournaments to keep lots of people interested
Cheers

I am comparing this year's calendar with the 07/08-edition, and find that the Pot Black is missing this season. Does anyone know if it has been cancelled and if so; why?
Lets hope it's a regular knock out tournament this year as to avoid any dubious results!
Personally i think the round robins are fairer and avoid dubious results better than knock outs. In any case, its already been announced they are trying a random draw format this year. So presumably it must have gone back to knockouts.

If anyone's interested I have made a printer-friendly version of the 08-09 calendar. I have only put the main snooker tournaments, using info from the WSA website.
