  • 2005 Pot Black Cup

Just to cobble together info we all know....

It's a one-off tournament that seems not to have a future for re-introducing a BBC2 programme to rival Sky's BetFred version; a missed opportunity or is this a finger-in-the-air strategy? As Sir Rod has said that they will announce a 7th ranking event; benefit of the doubt is in order.
It retains the single frame format from the series that ran between 1969-1986.

This'll be a toughie to win and the League players among us who play the single frame shoot-out will see how the Pro's deal with our weekly duel. The winner will no doubt pay tribute to the unusual surroundings and hopefully we'll see some classic film of the old tournament with maybe some black and white footage too.

    The Draw is...

    Quarter Final 1
    John Higgins V Stephen Maguire
    Quarter Final 2
    Shaun Murphy V Jimmy White
    Quarter Final 3
    Stephen Hendry V Matthew Stevens
    Quarter Final 4
    Ronnie O'Sullivan V Paul Hunter

    When does the fun starts?
    Tomorrow 13:05-16:30
Apart from terrestrial, this tournament's available on BBC Interactive and Eurosport too

What we should see now Ron is the BBC talking to the WSA to revive the format and have a BBC version of the Premier League and get the event staged on the terrestrial provider and the Final back at the RAC Club. Who would want to see that?......

That's alright Ron, the Premier League (so mmany of them about I guess) I'm talking about is the one SkySports in the UK televise. The 'ET' part! just means the BBC as this will be available to anyone (in the UK) even if they've not got a Cable/Sky or even a set-top box.

More Snooker for the masses in a friendly approachable format that immediately grabs the attention. It would even inspire anyone who plays in a team with a single frame format too.

It seems to me that the powers-that-be are gauging if this event has impressed enough to warrant, 'rolling it out', properly; hope so, I really enjoyed the event.... apart from feeling surprised that the quarters weren't live - small potatoes.

Are you gonna catch it on Eurosport later?

Im recording the eurosport-broadcast, to watch later. its interesting to hear both the BBC and the Eurosport commentary, though the BBCs is better I think. Its also in English which Im more comfortable with somehow.

I can imagine that, for different countries that ES broadcasts to, they all have their different commentary feeds with varying characters - what are the Dutch guys (gals?) like? We can get some insider views on the Dutch Open which I've just found out is happening shortly in your neck of the woods.

(BTW are there as many grammatical similarities to English in Dutch that it seems from listening to it? It's just that I've got this comedy recording at the moment (Arie en Sylvester - Titanic.mp3) that sounds Scandinavian, possibly Dutch, but it's as though it's only a few degrees off being completely decipherable and understandable.... like a radio just a few Hz of Stereo FM).

Thats a dutch cabaret group indeed, they rock!

The Dutch commentators are 2, an elderly dutch guy who doesnt have a clue what hes talking about, and a Belgian whose pretty good, Ill look up his name soon.

Dutch Open? Where and when is it, if you know? I might go and have a look if time allows for it.
