  • BetFred Premier League Snooker; Round 9 (&final League Matches)

    St.David's Hall, Cardiff.

Match 1: Davis v Ding (Davis must win and hope Ronnie beats Murphy)

    Match 2: Henders v Mags

Match 3: Ron v Shaun (Murphy'll know by now if he's a chance to quaulify)

...... match 1 in progress, Davis in after a good safety but hasn't warmed up yet and misses a black off the spot. slightly hampered by being only 6 inches off the side cushion; safety battle in progress. Davis 9 nil up... Ding's safety's rubbish again and hits the wrong red! Davis in amongst them but black's off it's spot; pink and blue go though.... over to Neal and Clive....

god damn copy'n'pasting 9 instead of Round 10!!!!!

Anyway, Steve's gone from strength to strength, got the pink onto the black spot with reds covering the pink; gets 49 when he misses a colour.

Ding now needs 4 reds and all the colours, but can only take 1 pink (that's over the bottom right pocket) in the clearance.... or multiple visits. 3 reds tied up on the letf cushion... tippy taps ensues!! Davis should be favourite for a 1 nil lead.

Rubbish safety by Ding again pots the pink when he was playing off a red; foul 6.

67-6. 1-0 Davo!!! Flag to mast in this one; and the next...

(Note to Davo... don't do any slow rill-ups along the cushions... banana comes to mind, tablefitters hang your heads in shame!

Frame 2 starts..... massive kick on a Davis dump safety gives Ding an easy red that he smashes into the pack off..... measles shot as we say in these 'ere woods!

Oh dear, 999 out of a 1000 half ball black off it's spots goes begging; Ding still hasn't got the confidence to say hello at the beginning of the programme.... Davis on a time-out (couldn't the Cadburys sponsor this item?)

Davis missed cushioned red, Ding with cracking pot to middle started a very good break worthy of some Air Miles (tm).. unlucky on 51 not to land on the last red... but careless not to see an obvious in-off; get some billiards down your throat young man.

Ding's 58 - 27 up; oh dear, ANOTHER obvious in-off and he's not lucky this time; foul 4. Poor from Davis ball-in-hand, lovely stroked frame ball yellow should allow him to fall over the line; Davis will continue with only 1 snooker required.

Ding draws level after an in-off by Davis and then potting a good green

        67-32. 1-1

Decent break by Davis doesn't stop a nice long pot off the cushion by Ding, a doubled red after only grazing the pack keeps the youngster buzzing.. until a shocker cut to left middle on a red he was wary of a cannon oon a colour maybe. 36-0 up.

xlnt safety wrapping under and around the pack from Davis, Ding replies with a goodun to force a thinner snick than davis wanted. Both players firing in some nice length safetie until Ding flukes a red to offer the brown which he shouldn't be on if it was a good safety.... 8 reds left and 47 up.

Davis with a mile-wide chunk of luck to get on the black via the top nuckle of the left middle and a kiss too! cobbles 19 together and then another jaw dropper fluke kiss black position. I predict Steve to internally scream with delight if this frame goes his way; one of his WORST ever frames if he loses.. with this amount of luck, the gods are gifting it to him...

heart thumping screaming (don't call the police neighbour) 49 clearance... WINNER.

A gnarled and quizical grimace while checking the scoreboard over his shoulder was all he managed... Steve, anybody'd think you've won 6 World Titles!!!

              Steve 2-1 Up.

Fourth frame, needs 2 out of the 3 next. Hope he's got his traction control on as he's reaching out for some form. 2 seconds left on the last pot, safety his only option after potting the blue.. nice fluked brown kiss to leave Ding tucked in behind the green; foul 4 and a miss.... woeful next attempt, too hard and leaves Steve in, Ding may have unleashed a dangerous animal... 31-4 up...

Well, who'd have thought it eh, Davis qualifies by beating Ding which is no mean feat in itself. Then Ronnie bashes Murphy up 5-1 which means Davis qualifies as Murphy needed 2 frames to get through.
I think this defeat will really hurt Murphy, I think he knows deep down that despite being world champion, he really isn't in O'Sullivan's league. He really struggled and looked under so much pressure and missed one or two really simple balls.
Chuffed for Davis though, still on his day can produce the goods and deserves his spot in the semi final.

Thanks for that update Cueman, flaky internet connection cut me off with the horrible 404 error.

As you say, an amazing night of results that see Ron V Steve and Hendry V Ding in the semi's - pity I'll need a tape of finals night has some dopehead's arranged a county snooker match that night!

Murphy needs to reign himself in now and again - that red to bottom right he missed was a shot he should have refused, "he's gone", we said when it didn't even rattle.

Anyhow, save the juice for fear of errors.... we can look forward to some quality snooker (some of us anyway, playing snooker or overseas members)... hopefully not a succession of whitewashes like last year.

I hope Mags has a better night than any other League nights he's endured.... looks like he's spent and used all his energy on last year. If only he could imagine himself in 5 years time looking back with experience of a veteran and get over this slump. He must have been gagging to start playing this year (apart from the defeat by Ron), but a high standard he set last year isn't easy to repeat, especially as he's never played that well before. A good chat with someone special would clear his head nicely... brown for a century is very welcome for a genuinely good bloke; most Scots are.
