  • Australian Goldfields Open 2011

The draw is out for the Australian Goldfields Open.

There is no Igor Figueiredo and perhaps more surprising, no Marco Fu!

Also there is no place for the European qualifier so it looks as if there won't be one. Just 97 players so only one preliminary match.

Thre will be just two local wild cards at the final venue

2 wildcards are Steve and James mifsud. both brothers, both playing pretty well at the moment. Steve got his wildcard for being currently ranked number 1 in australia, and james got it for winning the latest ranking tournament (city of melbourne, 96 players). theyre playing well at the moment because of the training theyre putting in. steve knocked in 3 centuries in a row a few weeks ago in A grade pennant, and james knocked in a 147 the other night. lets hope their form keeps up

but neither came over for Q School so shouldn't Vinnie Calabrese who attempted the move in to the big time have got a wild card for effort if nothing else.

He didn't miss much in the first 4 frames, did he. Looks like he got a walkover against Hamilton, not sure what happened there.

Was it a walkover ? Really wanted to see Anthony Hamilton do something this season . Great century break maker . Just don't see him in the latter stages of tournaments anymore .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

yeh. initially i thought steve and vinnie should hav got it, but they decided the city of melbourne tournament would be the way to go. vinnie is currently ranked second in the country, but when everyone got told the wildcard would be the winner of that tournament, everyone stepped up to have a go. james came through. he's not undeserving but i agree with you, vinnie should hav had an opportunity.

well if the goalposts was there that the winner of that event would get it then thats fair it was open to everyone and james won it fair play to him.
