    Whirlwind out of China Open

Visa problems end Jimmy White's hopes as Tian Pengfei is given a bye

Jimmy White has had to withdraw from the Bank of Beijing 2011 World Snooker China Open due to visa problems.

White, 49, had been due to play China's Tian Pengfei in the Wildcard Round at the Beijing Students University Stadium on Monday evening.

However, Tian Pengfei is now awarded a bye and will now meet Mark Selby in the first round on Wednesday.
bit of a disaster this: he could do with ranking points.

All that hard work to qualify as well. I don't think he's posted anything on Twitter for a while (since he got beat in the WC qualifiers) Maybe he's had enough. It will be a shame. That's his season over, isn't it?

That's a good point. Maybe i'm being pessimistic here but i get the impression that Jimmy is fed up with the game at the moment. After having a decent season, i think that WC game has shot him to bits. It wouldn't surprise me. Apart from when he was ill for one of the PTC's, I've never known White not to show up anywhere, be late or be indisciplined.

It's a strange one. Hasn't he just come back from China a few weeks ago?

                Absolutely gutted.. What a pitty..

                Read this:

Ronnie O'Sullivan last night expressed his disappointment at Jimmy White's China Open final qualifying round win against Dominic Dale on Sunday. The result means that exhibition matches between himself and Jimmy, that Ronnie had been trying to arrange for the week when the China Open final stages are to be played, will now have to be cancelled unless Jimmy withdraws from the event.

"I am disappointed that Jimmy made it through, however, I haven't given up the idea of convincing him to give China a miss, and instead play me in a couple of exhibitions here in The UK. I will talk to him later this week", Ronnie told reporters.

That's absolute nonsense. O'Sullivan would never say anything like that. Where did you get that crap from?

I am still looking into the situation but from what I can gather at present, this is the situation:

Jimmy was working in China a couple of weeks ago at an exhibition event. When he applied for his visa for this work, he explained that he needed a visa for this earlier event and for the China Open. This was granted and he went to China as planned. He has since been in Thailand and was due to fly from Thailand to China in time for his match on Monday. He went to the airport in Bangkok to board his flight to China and was told there was a problem with his visa and he was not allowed onto his flight to China. As you can imagine, Jimmy is devastated and more than a little annoyed! After such a great season this is a terrible way for it to end for him. Please be assured that Jimmy was 100% intending on playing in the China Open and no-one is more disappointed than him that he will not be able to do that.

That is as much as I know at the moment until I speak with the company that issued the visa tomorrow during their opening hours.

                          maybe

Im sure if this is true - he will make more money from the exhibitions - than spending all that money travelling to China, to possibly lose in the wild card round

The exhibition he was working at is an exhibition where companies each have their own stand to welcome possible customers and not a number of exhibition matches.

Jimmy is in Thailand and was trying to board his flight to China when the visa issues were detected so he has saved no money. He has essenitally travelled as close as he can get to China and has lost the money from the ticket for the flight he should have been on to get to China! He now has to pay for a ticket back to the UK on top of the other expenses so he is, for whatever reason, very much out of pocket!
