You play a long slow deadweight red to a corner pocket. As it approaches the pocket, a kamikaze woodlouse crawls out from under the cushion and makes its way across the table, conflicting with the path of the red precisely at the point the red gets there. The red, needless to say, veers off course, and the future of the woodlouse is uncertain. - The Statman

He was no. 15 in the world but due to Ding being defending champion and Murphy being world champion and both of them being outside the top 16 at the time, Davis had to play a qualifying round. I guess that's about as ironic as it can be.

I can only keep my eye on 3 games at once, but this is what I've got so far from live scoring:
Jimmy's 2-1 up on Andrew Norman, each frame won with a decent break. Norman just in in frame 4, break on 5 and counting.
Parrott took the first (with a 94 break) but lost the second against young Trump, no score of any significance yet in the third.
Dale took the first in his with the help of a 63 break (although there was a fair bit of safety before he actually sealed it). Spick now in on a break of 7 in frame 2.

More updates on my featured matches:
Dale's just taken a fairly scrappy second, Spick in first in frame 3, 7 and counting.
Jimmy's leading 70-21 in frame 4, looks like 3-1.
Trump's leading Parrott in frame 3, in on 1 and 58-38 up.
Updates:
3-1 White-Norman (at interval)
1-1 Parrott-Trump (protracted safety battle on the green, Trump leading 58-43)
2-0 Dale-Spick (Dale in on 23, leading 46-16)
More updates:
1-2 Parrott-Trump, Parrott potted the green but broke down, Trump finished off
3-0 Dale-Spick (with a break of 40 something)
