      • I am not too surprised with Ebdon's defeat. Since the 2004 Malta Cup he has only won 5 best of 9 matches. 5 wins in 10 (best of 9 primarily) tournaments isn't the best of form.

        • Wiiliams got another baby and exit it is! Seems the curse of the baby boomers! Do you think this is the final straw for Williams? out of the top 16 and soon enough no more to be seen. What a waste of talent!

Yes, because Stormwatch here will actually be seeing White beating Higgins in his dreams when he goes to sleep tonight. What will happen in real life, in the tournament tomorrow, however - is quite the opposite

(Honestly, though, like I said earlier in the thread - Ronnie might book an early flight home now that Ding's out.)

            • Once again the top half of the draw is much weaker and it would seem as though the winner of Maguire verses Murphy will make the final. Funny that the half Murphy's in is much easier.

Yes I agree, he isn't getting any younger and unlike the likes of Ronnie, Higgins and a lot of the younger players coming through, he doesn't score heavily enough to win frames or matches. His long potting and ability to win scrappy used to be enough for him to get to a lot of quarter final stages of tournaments, now every first round match is a potential loss for him because the standard is so high.

Maybe he will turn it around if he does drop out the top 16 but he could very easily go the way of Jimmy White and struggle to stay in the 32 or possibly off the tour altogether now such is the strength in depth.

There are also Higgins and Robertson around, Maija. One of them Ronnie's "ghost of season past" and the other his current bogey-player. So I really hope Ronnie won't be losing interest in this tournament, although actually winning a match in China seemed good enough for me. Yesterday.

                  • I second Cueman and atthebookies. Likewise Jimmy, it is a pity we lose a player with a flamboyant style of play. hopefully Wlliams can turn it around next season, though I thought he was coming back to his best last season around this time of the year when he won the China Open and had a few decent spells before that. if not coming back next season, it could be all over. And for Ding, after The Masters I already aired that particular final could break his career. I hope not, but it does not look good. Positive he qualified for Sheffield, but the first round will be crucial for the rest of his career. If he can overcome Mr. O'sullivan it will boost his morale and be back on track. But it seems unlikely.

I know, I know The reason I did mention Ronnie's possible loss of interest, and we'll find out soon enough, is that he has indeed been one of the "hypers" of the ROS/Ding finale. If he had his heart set on that it might be that he'll not care about the Higginsons, Carters and Robertsons of this tournament.

                      Today:

                      [Early morn

                      Marco Fu v Matthew Stevens
                      Ali Carter v Ronnie O'Sullivan
                      John Higgins v Jimmy White
                      Neil Robertson v Graeme Dott

                      Not-so-early-just-past-noonish

                      Jamie Cope v Stuart Bingham
                      Stephen Maguire v Shaun Murphy
                      Joe Swail v Barry Hawkins
                      Mark Selby v Ken Doherty

All hope of seeing John's match on telly just went down the drain there, I suppose. Well, another day on Live Score / MSN / TSF / Eurosport.

                      • Maija, do you have an idea who is on the other televised table (I suppose you think Ronnie is on the first one)? There should be a possibility to watch the video from that one too... Too bad eurosport is showing one table only, and yesterday showed recorded matches after the short Cope vs Williams match, instead of the very interesting Davis vs Bingham match...
