  • Dott v Cope - 1/4 -07

Shotgun vs. Dynamo (on April Fools' Day)

In just under eight hours the final will begin.

Cope: When I watched his first match against Yang Qintian I wasn't impressed by any means. He missed a lot of balls and made some sillt shot selections. During this week it seems as if he he has thrown away the little safety/tactical play that was in him and have decided to go for an all-attacking game a la Ronnie the Rouquette. Some shots he made in his semi-final was the ones of a newbie playing in front of a crowd for the first time - misjudged, poor and far-fetched attempts of absurdly difficult pots.
In other matches he's played absolutely brilliant so he's been very uneven this week. It will be interesting to see which Cope turns up tomorrow.

Dott: Has played very solid all week. He's in the final and he's not been under pressure in any match yet - that's always a good sign. The match against Ronnie really didn't tell much about Dott's form - after the two first frames Ronnie had basically given up the match. He's also had some more hours rest before the final than Cope - that can be crucial considering jetlag.

Dott is experienced and a professional player to the fingertips. Cope on the other hand is something of a a rough diamond. Makes an interesting combination and a clash of different playing styles and approaches to the game.

Most folks expect Dott to run over Cope, and I have to say I largely agree with that predication. Although in Snooker anything can happen and, as we all know, it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

Any other comments about the match?

If Cope plays well, he will steamroll Dott. If Dott plays solid and conistant like he has done all week and Cope plays like he did today he will probably lose.
But i think Cope has gained a lot of experience from the final he lost in the Grand Prix, so it should be a good match.
I love the game of snooker :) (even though my mates think that its just a load of balls :D )

I have to say it's quite strange the final has started half an hour ago and still CCTV5 are showing studio talk about the players and interviews with Dott and Cope from yesterdey.

      Bring on the Snooker!

Cope reduces to 1-1 with a break of 65

          Frame 3:
Dott makes 38 before failing to split the pack. Short safety play before Cope's hits the pack too thick, leaving Dott with an easy opening red. Dott makes 16, then stragnely enough refuses a good chance of further splitting the pack and plays safe instead. Cope wears a white shirt today. Safety play. Cope misses a long red from tight on the cushion and scratches. No obvious pot on. Safety play. Dott misses a long red, leaves Cope a chance. Cope makes 16 before missing a red with slightly negative angle. Dott makes a break of 22 and wins the frame 80-16.

          Dott 2-1 Cope

Have you tried SopCast? I've been watching for 45 mins without a single interruption.

Greak break of 97 by Cope, could have been a total clearance. 2-2, four frames in just about one hour.

                  Interval.

It sure looks like Cope is up for it today, Dott will have to play better than this to win the match. He's not yet come up to the standard he's had in previous matches and Cope is playing as good as ever.

And he's now up to 5-2. Will need 4 more frames this afternoon.

Things seem to have changed slightly just now!

Jamie seems to have lost his way slightly, a sort of immaturity of shot selection/temperament – which won't be helped by the outrageous fluked red that Dott has had at the start of this eighth frame (which just might become a 147 attempt...).

It's definitely 6-2 to Dott. Well done.
