  • In fairness, saying ""You've got to be stupid to make those comments. However, Ronnie's not stupid when it comes to publicity." is not the same as "branding O'Sullivan 'stupid'", as the BBC's headline claims.
"If anybody can knock these three balls in, this man can."

    • Well what can he say? It was stupid...
By the way, Higgy said "naive" ...

I wonder if the whole interview is available somewhere? It would not be the first time that some sentences - triggered by well directed questions - are picked out and presented out of context for maximum impact...

And actually the whole article speaks more about Higgin's projects for a tour than about the last of Ron's faux pas!

      • The most interesting thing about that article to me is that O'Sullivan finally recognizes that he doesn't go to China to win. I can't remember him ever touching on that before as he usually just gives us clichés (the better man of the day won etc etc.) after losing.

He's won the tournament three times and that's maybe why he has lost interest. He doesn't particularly need the ranking points from it and the prize money isn't much.

I really don't think Ronie likes being away from home much - he was away at a tournament when his dad was arrested, and his mum was later jailed for tax evasion or somethig I think. It would be easy to get into the mindset that as soon as he went awasy, bad things happened.

He'll get a massive fine from worldsnooker for bringing the game into disrepute or conduct unbecoming of a professional, as well he should.

A "Massive fine" for any ordinary mere mortal would be something like the £20,000 he got fined after his UK walkout.

Due to his great wealth though, I think something like that would be like an average person getting a £60 parking ticket. Annoying yes, but its hardly going to break anyones bank.

I don't think it'll be a mere 20 grand - I would take away any money earned in China, whether through competing or sponsorship - quarter of a million would be nice

                  • Ronnie is lucky he wasn't handed over to the Chinese authorities for his actions. They would have dealt with him in the appropriate manner. That behaviour is acceptable in Romford on a Friday night but not in China. He would have spent some time in a cell if the Chinese had their way.

The Chinese allowed him to broadcast an apology and little else was said, so your theory falls down somewhat on that score.

I agree, the british media didn't publish anything about his pretty much instant apology to the chinese nation.

He didn't make that apology voluntarily. He was forced to. How stupid is he to think he can go to China and behave as though he was on a council estate in Essex? You can be assured that had it been solely up to the Chinese authorities he would have been detained. If you think otherwise you have no understanding of the country.

A stupid comment from a Ronnie fan. Par for the course.
