It still annoys me that WSA does not take its responsibilities also.
I don't think the WSA's responsibilites extend as far as getting a press officer to censor a player, they might extend as far as stopping the press conference early but then the press officer would get the blame instead of the offending player.

However, the WSA do have a responsibility to punish a player who brings the game into disrepute by word or deed. More importantly, they have a responsibility to BE SEEN to carry out such a punishment to a level and in a manner equating to the level of the offence.

I am not sure I have ever seen or heard any "sportsman" behaving like that in a press conference. Certianly not one who participates in a non contact sport.

    • But surely the role of the WSA media officer is NOT to participate in such banter actively and to encourage it? Which is what actually happened.

      • I'd have to watch it again, if the situation merits the press officer being punished ALONG with Ronnie, so be it, however, in my opinion there are NO mitigating circumstances for disrespect of the level that Ronnie has shown.

If I go to work in a place, I show respect and courtesy to the people in that place, my livlihood depends on it.

well of course that is part of a press officers job.................

if he feels the player is bringing the game in to disrepute he has a obligation to the sport of trying to stop it....not as this dipstick did in encourage it...

seriously what did you think was his job......to sit there like a lemmon looking important and getting payed for the privlage???????

          • I understand your frustration and can see how not reading my post properly could lead you to the sarcastic and childish reply which you have made.

I did not at any time say anyone should condone such comments or behaviour, my point is, in order to stop such an occurrance, how would th press officer go about it?

He's not likely to get any outcome from a verbal rebuke other than Ronnie walking out which would lead to him possibly receiving equal criticism. He obviously cannot intervene physically. Whatever he does, additionally, he must do so in front of a watching and eager media.

The thing is this, boss gets angry, rebukes the manager, he takes it out on his secretary, she berates the receptionist who goes home and sends her kid to bed early, he kicks the cat on the way upstairs.

If the boss wasn't angry the cat wouldn't get kicked. There is always a chain and whatever occurs along that chain, you have to look to the start of it. Bottom line if Ronnie wasn't the way he was, we wouldn't be discussing the press officer, don't lay the blame anywhere else other than Ronnie.

              • As I said already a zillion times ...
Ronnie's behaviour certainly is not acceptable, he has his responsibilities and he will take the blame.
The WSA media officer's role is in my opinion, to try to prevent incidents to happen, for the good of the game, not Ronnie's. BUT EVEN if he felt he could or dared do nothing ... there is absolutely NO justification for him to participate in the banter and encourage it. Hence he has his responsibilities aswell ... not taking any of Ronnie's.
As he is a WSA official I find it weird and disturbing that WSA seems to be ignoring his attitude and does not apologise for that also.

                • Ban Ronnie and sack the WSA guy. End of story.

Is there a way us genuine fans of snooker and all that it upholds can get Ronnie banned? I am sick of the game being disrespected by him and then the WSA standing by and letting it happen. I would like to start a petition to have the guy removed for let's say a season.

I did laugh during the press conference, but realised straight away it's inappropriate and should be delt with.

                          • Discourtesy does not spring merely from one bad quality, but from several--from foolish vanity, from ignorance of what is due to others, from indolence, from stupidity, from distraction of thought, from contempt of others, from jealousy.

                            • Wonder those who find it funny, when for instance Quinten Hann (australian) had proposed this to Hazel Irvine in a press conference. Think you would all brandmark him. Double standards.
