    • Can't say what they'd have done but I have a hazy notion of how certain discussions would have went and what statements one could have read here.

      • I know it's not professional of Ronnie to act like that, but then again, why is everyone (still) suprised at Ronnie's behaviour? I, for one, aspire to be like him for his game, he plays damn good snooker and he's been my hero and inspiration since I was old enough to pick up a cue.

No, it wasn't professional, no, he shouldn't have done it, yes, he deserves some sort of punishment, but no-one should be too hard on him because at the end of the day- admit it or not- we all act immature and make tastless jokes, whether it's at completely the wrong time to joke or not.

The press release that Janie put up thismorning was released by Ivan himself and I am sure he had a bollocking form Sir RW

Two tings though, firstly that I can't see Ivan behaving in this manner at all, there must be something we are missing from that video!!!!! Ivan always behaves in a proper and upstanding manner

Secondly I am sure the WSA wants to coverup or downplay anything that they have done wrong.

I am sure if we contact them about this all they will have to say is what they always say "No Comment"

          • I have deliberately held off putting my twopenny's-worth in until viewing it for myself.

It was out of order; of that there is no doubt. Probably, he should have some penalty (and I would suggest it has to be monetary not ranking points, particularly as it occurred off the table) (and because he won hardly any ranking points for the event anyway).

As for the official, I must admit I have not seen any coverage to show the face, so don't know whether it was Mr. Hirschowits or not. It does not sound 100% like Ivan's voice but these things are not so easy to detect in the periphery of a YouTube broadcast.

It certainly doesn't seem like the sort of behaviour I would expect of Ivan.

Nevertheless, as ferret says above, I don't doubt that he has had a telling-off; but why should that be publicised? That is an internal affair; O'Sullivan was the subject of the press conference so it is slightly different.

            • Monetary penalties mean nothing. He should be bann from playing at this year's world championships.

Dollars to doughnuts, my place versus a beer or something equally absurd that it doesn't happen. For a number of reasons, and I think that one of them is "the penalty should fit the crime." Another one is much more pragmatical: I doubt the WSA will act that fast.

there was a picture from press conference in this topic (page No. 4).

                  • Of course "the penalty should fit the crime", but everybody should not forget that ROS is not at the first mistake, he is a hardened offender, a recidivist, and, imo, there are no chances at all that he will learn from those mistakes and start behaving properly. So, imo, the penalty should be a very drastic one. The WSA have protected Ronnie for too long....

                    • I read about 6 pages of this thread just now before going back to watch the video. Fully expecting to dislike ROS more than I already did, but I was quite surprised. To be honest he reminded me of me and my mates having a laugh and it made him seem a bit more normal to me than before. I know that sounds nuts but thats just the way it is.

I do think that his timing and impatience showed poor class, but he's just a working class guy come millionaire. He made his mistake and I think a small fine is suitable but no more in this case. He's only human as he says.

                      • LWB ... I'm glad you wrote this. It does not sound nuts at all to me. I feel the same about this: ROS just showed himself the way he is ... a cockney street boy, become a millionaire, but still a cockney street boy and very simply human. it was bad timing, it is embarassing to a certain extend, it is uncalled for certainly ... yes all that. But does it really harm the game? or anyone except himself? I honestly doubt it.

                        • I actually laughed when he was messing about, not that I'm proud of it. I'm not a fan of ROS but the way, but at the same time it was even unfair for me to say in my last post that I dislike him, I've never met the guy lol.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, or lets just laugh at the funny guy and look forward to him playing quality snooker, because that's all he has to do for me.

I actually thought the way he played the match was in some ways worse than the press conference.

                          • ROS is the most gifted player in snooker and, in terms of talent he can be compared to Woods, Federer or Schumacher. I wonder if any of you who are trying to defend him, ever heard such words from those three mentioned above ? I think not. And i believe that they were similar to ROS in terms of money and social status.
Such words can be heard from a person like Mike Tyson and i think Ronnie's character is more like Tyson's than Woods's or Federer's.

ROS is a professional snooker player, he earns his money playing snooker, he is snooker's image in China and by behaving like that he is mocking the sport that made him rich and famous.

Tyson is a whole other issue. Talking trash made him millions in tickets sold, and the stuff he came out with, and more importantly how it was said is very different. It's not really fair to compare the two in my opinion.

Maybe he should be a role model, maybe he should care more about what he says. But maybe he just has his off days, no big deal to me. As I said before it just reminded me of a guy having a laugh with his mates.
