To answer Semih's question.
I think a serious fine would be on order, witth some clearly defined usage to promote the sport. Plus maybe a suspended ban under the condition to participate seriously to some of the new invitational events the WPBSA wants to set up to promote the game. Ronnie is World Champion and nr 1, he's obviously also the one who attracts audience: make him contribute actively to promoting the sport seems to me to be something constructive at least ...

I speak as a huge fan of Ronnie O'Sullivan, I don't think it makes a lot of difference whether he thought it was on or off - it was a terrible thing to do, but then bipolar disorder can be responsible for a lot of extremely stupid and bizarre (manic) behaviour. I know it's an excuse trotted out whenever he does something but it's true.

Regardless of the cause and mitigation, he did something that was potentially very damaging whether the cameras/mic were on or otherwise. But at the same time, who the heck was it sitting next to him? If it was a WBSA official, what the hell were they doing?

O'Sullivan should be punished and heavily, because ignorance is no excuse.
