  • The end of Ding Junhui?

im a huge fan of ding, but he just keeps on losing..
such an outstanding talent, but hasnt delivered it for a very long while (the masters 2007 final vs ronnie really affected him).
he is still very young, but all upcoming players are young..

    could it be..........?

No. Admittedly he's underachieveing massively, but he still has 'time on his side'. Maybe he wont hit the heights people once thought he would, but theres no way it the end for him.

In general, and on the whole, his temperement does seem to be recovering since he was 'destroyed' by Ronnie.

        Overreacting much?

Admittedly this defeat is a setback, but he had been improving.

            i agree.

he's 21. he may drop out of the 16 but mark williams had two poor years and dropped out and he's back. joe perry dropped out and came back stronger.

it may be the kick up the backside he needs.

I think the main cause is sex addiction. A lot of these lads are snooker players, they were losers at school and girls weren't interested, and then suddenly they're on TV winning money and getting famous and they get groupies. What lad wouldn't take advantage of that? Many of them lose their focus and slip down the rankings. You have to remember that to a lad in his early 20's having a career isn't going to take precedence over a hot blonde serving it up on a plate to you! Ian Doyle even had trouble with Hendry getting his leg over at the start of his career and forced him dump his girlfriend.

I don't think he is finished by any means but something has to change if he is going to get back to where he was in 2005/6. Wrote this on the situation a short while ago which pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I would like to see him sort things out really because when his head is in the right place and he is playing well, he's still one of the very best players in the game, but those occasions are few and far between these days. I mean when was the last time he really produced his best form in a ranking event?

Well, I am personally a big fan of Ding. I really like his style but he has gone off very significantly in the past year or year and a half.

It is very strange how 2 matches can affect a player so much, Masters 07 Final and World Champ 07 First Round.

I really hope he can have a good run in the World Champs. But...

I am also a big fan of Liang Wenbo, it is a Real shame that one of them has to go at the first hurdle at the World Championship. As of late, Wenbo has been getting better results than Ding lately and has stolen his thunder a bit.

I both want Liang and Ding to do well at the World Championship this year. I think it would be fantastic if Liang can get into the top 16 a soon as possible.

As it stands I really do fear for Ding at the Crucible. I have a feeling Liang is going to win that match and that may send Ding out of the top 16.

I don't want Liang in the Top 16 unless he rounds off his game, rather than playing an ultra-attacking style. There's nothing wrong with it but I think a Top 16 player needs to display good traits in every department and subsequently he wouldn't really give a good name to a "Top 16 player" or be an example of it. To me, a "Top 16 player" doesn't just mean someone who is in that ranking position. It means someone who has an all rounded game, if that makes sense.

i dont believe that, but who am i?
i loved watching liang because of his attacking style, isnt pretty much every single player today with a "rounded game", i think so, which is why the game today is not what it used to be like, players like A.higgins went for outrageous shots, when his possision wasnt very good, which made him exciting for people to watch. wasnt it?

A.higgins won the world champs and i dont think anyone could say he had a rounded game? could you?

I wouldn't say It's the end of Ding far from it, but It's very difficult to "pinpoint" exactly why he is disappointing more often than not. There's no doubting he's got the game but i still believe his temperament is is his (achilles heel) & may well remain so for the rest of his career. I hope he gets over this slump in form as he's one of the few players who i really want to see achieve his full potential.

                              Brilliant! LMFAO!
Never thought I'd see the words "sex addiction" being used in connection with Ding....and to be honest, part of me wishes that connection had never been made, lol. The other part found this post to be hilarious.

                              On topic though:
When will people on this forum stop overreacting when players lose their form?
I'm getting a bit fed up with all the "is this the end of..."-threads. OK, so Ding's drop in form has lasted a bit longer than maybe most of us had expected and his problems might have turned out to be a bit more serious.
But to think that a player of his calibre is finished at the age of 21/22 (?) just because they're going through a rough patch is ridiculous to me.
I tend to agree with the people on this thread who have said that he might need to be an underdog again to get his motivation and fighting spirit back. That way he might not have to deal with the same amount of pressure as he's currently under.
Walking uphill for a while might actually do him the world of good.
