Higgins-Tian: Tian has had two convincing wins so far, he hasn't had to deal with the pressure of a close match. A solid Higgins would probably be too much for him, but I don't think Higgins is quite there yet. Looking forward to this one, could be close.

Harold-Ebdon: Didn't expect this pair in the 2nd round. Harold has a solid record against Ebdon, a couple of 5-4 wins. We've seen that Harold is pretty good but we haven't seen Ebdon this week. This could go all the way as well.

Walden-Hendry: 1-1 in their meetings this season. I would put Walden favourite, he is obviously inspired in China. I wonder if Hendry can find a bit of form.

Carter-Pettman: Both players playing well. But since Pettman has never been past the 2nd round, you'd have to fancy Carter.

Xiao-O'Sullivan: O'Sullivan looked reasonable today. If he were to lose this, it would probably be his most surprising defeat in years. Xiao has been pretty solid though, O'Sullivan can't afford to be complacent.

Dott-Selby: Tie of the round for me. Both players in good form. This will be a nice preview of their possible 2nd round match at the WC.

Murphy-Robertson: This pair looks the strongest on paper, but neither player has been particularly good so far. I don't remember these two ever playing each other. The winner will play against either King or Day, so a chance to go far in the tournament.

King-Day: Day is always solid in China, he should take this. But then again, I never expected King to beat Williams.

That's my prediction anyway, but what do I know, only two of the players I predicted for the QF are still in the tournament.

Two thumbs up for a good opening post, odrl! I pretty much agree with everything you've written but personally I would puy Selby as the favourite against Dott.

Some really good matches here in prospect, but the tie of the round for me is Murphy v. robertson & the one i'm looking forward to most.

Robertson has beaten Murphy twice at the UK Championships in 2004 and 2005 both 9-8. I am pretty sure Robertson won their Northern Ireland Trophy meeting in 2005 5-4 aswell. I can't recall a Murphy win.

No, King plays better against similar styles. He gets bogged down by grinders, while he produces good stuff against flair players. Day is like King - looks comfortable, but misses too many easy ones. I expect King to pick up the pieces after Day's misses

I've used it - watched Day's match yesterday and Selby's tomorrow. Though it's all in Chinese, it's pretty easy Once the matches start, there is a black screen and two arrows at the left. Click on one arrow - you have one table, click on the other - it switches to second table. The only downside - it doesn't have sound. But it's still better than nothing, I guess.

Ah, thanks. I should remember them then, I probably watched them.

Or maybe these matches weren't televised, as neither player was in the top16 at that time.
