The kid he was playing was on a maxuimum but seemed to turn down an opportunity of 8th black and into the pack of reds to play a dubious safety.

Anyway a formality for Ronnie although I didnt expect the kid to get 3 frames on the board but he played ok.

he was lower on the black than he really wanted to be, i guess he was worried if the went into the pack and missed the black it would be frame over, i bet if he was playing just about any player other than ronnie he would have taken the shot on, fear of the oposition can cause players to make strange decisions

SHOULD Dott get past Pettman he faces a very winnable, IMO, semi-final against either Ebdon or Hendry.

The top half of the draw is looking pretty ridiculous consindering Maguire, Selby and Ali were the main threats. Apart from Hendry none of them are in the provisional top 16 are they?

Whereas the bottom half of the draw sees a Higgins-O'Sullivan quaterfinal! Always exciting!

No although id expext Ebdon to edge Harold out come the end of this tournament and certainly Sheffield.

But I make you right I expected Selby and Maguire possibly to be there but full marks to Dott and Pettman. Id quite like to see Hendry go on and reach a final too.

Xiao caught Ronnie in his headlights no question... great tactics and safety play from Xiao pushed Ronnie to the final frame where he seemed to almost jolt back to reality and make what I thought was a masterful break - not a max ... not a ton... but some of the most difficult shots I've seen well-executed in a long time.
I hope someone ups that frame to YouTube.
