  • Ronnie's controversies with ref Scullion!

Guodong laid a really tricky snooker, Ronnie thought it was so tricky a miss should not have been called. Then there were some discussions if he could hit it an easier way, one cushion behind the pink instead. Ronnie tried that but repeatedly said "it's not on" and that it was "ridiculous". In the end he gave a lot of points away before hitting the red two cushions.

Did Scullion make the right decision in calling a miss?

Absolutely Yes, it was a miss.

I think if common sense was used by the ref hege a foul wouldnt have been called but its very difficult for those guys out there.

How can you say that when he did in fact hit it the harder way eventually. He was trying it on, that's all.

I make you right that the 2 cushion escape was harder. I just think that common sense could be used more by refs AT TIMES thats all.

It seemed like he could've hit the red by going behind the pink with check side.

Ronnie was well out of order, he made a right fool of himself.

So what's new! I notice that Ronnie only ever tries it on with refs who very rarely officiate in the TV events, like today for instance. Any of the refs whether it be Verhaas, Williams or Chamberlain, for me the best 3 in the game would have called miss. As the ball on was on the cushion it makes for a larger target area and therefore Ronnie was at an advantage as he was never leaving a pot on if he missed it. At the end of the day it was not an impossible snooker and he did hit it after 6 attempts, Ronnie was trying to intimidate the ref into letting him off but the ref stood up to him.

I remember Ronnie taking absolutely no notice of Chamberlain against Holty in the grand prix in aberdeen a few seasons back. Chamberlain told him to hit the ball on and not just any ball because Ronnie was 80 points ahead and Holty wouldnt concede in frame 2. Not exactly the same but if your saying Ronnie was in the mood to argue and mess about the referee doesnt matter to him.

Ronnie sometimes, imo, thinks he is bigger than the game itself. He tries it on so many times with referees that don't cover the tv events, but he also does it with seasoned refs. There is no need to be rude or disrespectful. He is living every snooker players dream. Most people have to go through hard graft all their lives. He is very privileged.
I love the game of snooker :) (even though my mates think that its just a load of balls :D )

Totally different situation altogether though isn't it. Ronnie can't have the rules changed just because he thinks he's bigger than the game. Its very rare you will see him try it on with the likes of Verhaas or Williams, but you just watch next time Cameleri (sp) refs, you know Ronnie will have words with him at some stage unless everything goes his way.

                          Hey Nat

Was he rude? I only heard it over the Chinese commentary and couldnt hear everything that was said.

Yes I acknowledged it was differing circumstances. Ill look out for it but I certainly dont think Ronnie thinks his bigger than the game.

I didn't see today's instance, but i have seen him numerous times in the past try it on with the ref.
