This is quoted from Bjørn's message no.158:
This is cut from the tournament rules:
      7. Should there be an equal number of matches won by two or more players, then the following criteria will determine the final position of each player in each group:
7.1 The player with the best Frame difference
7.2 If two players are still equal, the winner of the match between the two players who are equal

      • I hope that is correct. This head to head thing being first is silly.

If storey loses Ali and Dale would appear to be equal.

Below is an extended quotation of the rules (found at http://www.worldsnooker.com/tourname...d18154)-55.htm):
                  1. Each player will play one best of 5 frames match against each other member of his group.
                  2. The top 2 players from each group will progress to the next round in the tournament.
                  3. Players must take part in all round robin matches in that round of the Tournament for their results in that round to count.
                  4. One point will be awarded for each match won.
                  5. The number of matches won will determine the group positions.
                  6. Should there be two players with an equal number of matches won, the winner of the match between the two players who are equal will determine the positions.
                  7. Should there be an equal number of matches won by two or more players, then the following criteria will determine the final position of each player in each group:
7.1 The player with the best Frame difference
7.2 If two players are still equal, the winner of the match between the two players who are equal

7.3 The player with the highest number of frames won
7.4 If two players are still equal, the winner of the match between the two players who are equal
7.5 If two or more players remain tied a one-frame play off will be played between the players who are equal.
7.6 If two or more players still remain tied after the one frame play off, then the following will apply:
7.6.1 Highest number of matches won in the play off, if still equal then,
7.6.2 Best Frame Difference from the play off, if still equal then,
7.6.3 Highest aggregate score from play off.

It seems to me that rules 6 and 7.1 don't go together very well... Perhaps rule 7 is applied only when THREE or more players are tied?

                  • I still think it's wrong!

                    • I'm still convinced White can go through if rule 7 applies. Jogia needs to lose 2-3 to Spick, Allen needs to beat Burden, or Burden needs to win 3-2 (not 3-1 or 3-0). And Einsle needs to beat Ford 3-1. Then Allen will be #1, virtually everyone else will have 3 points, but White and Burden will have 0 frame difference where the rest has -1. And White beat Burden head to head.

So... now we know what to wish for!

They not only 'not go together' but they absolutely CONTRADICT each other.

What is that all about? Which rule applies? I wonder if the officials themselves know. Any player could appeal against the outcome of the tournament. This is all one huge circus!!!!!!!

                            • Once kind of has to assume rule 7 must read 'three or more players' but it's a stupid mistake, that's for sure.

                              • Still, if rule 7 says 'three or more' than what do you need 7.2 for? That's exactly the same statement as in rule 6 except that it only applies AFTER frame difference.

It seems to me that two different people made these rules and just mingled them together. Those kind of mistakes not even happen in my hobby league .

Anyway, if I'm allowed to voice my opinion.... it is absolutely ridiculous that Ricky Walden doesn't go through. As much as I respect Jamie Jones' achievements and potential but this one should be Ricky's. IMHO!
