Just thinking about this a bit more...
This means that, as it stands, Jones came 2nd and Walden 3rd.
But... if another player had also tied in this position but with a worse frame difference, Walden would have come 2nd and Jones 3rd, with the other player 4th.
So it means that the performance of every other player in the group has, indirectly, decided in which order Walden and Jones occupy 2nd and 3rd positions.
Sounds a bit odd to me.

The best comment in all this came from the Statman. The professionals all know the situation before they start.
Neither way is 100% fair. You could beat someone 3-0, finish level with them and still go out if frame difference is taken into account. Looking at it the other way, you could win every game 3-0, lose two matches 3-2 and still go out if one of the matches you lost was to a guy who won all bar two of his matches.
Set the rules to start with. Publish them clearly so that the players and officials know them and stick to them.

The thing that infuriates me about sports commentators in general is that they don't know the competition rules before they start commentating. How can you expect to be taken seriously if you don't know what's going on?
Case in point. 8-6 during the World Championships first round last year and the French commentator said, that Player X (can't remember who it was) was one frame away from the final. When Player X won the frame, he said that was the end and couldn't understand why they hadn't finished. Muppetry of the highest order.

I sent the following email to WS:sorry to bombard you with another query.
It has occurred in Group A, that Messrs Walden and Jones have occupied 2nd and 3rd position and Jones has gone through, by virtue of the head-to-head result.
However, Walden’s frame difference is superior to Jones’s.
As I understand it, if another player had also tied in this position but with a worse frame difference, Walden would have come 2nd and Jones 3rd, with the other player 4th.
So it appears that the performance of every other player in the group (not including their matches against Walden and Jones) has, indirectly, decided in which order Walden and Jones occupy 2nd and 3rd positions.
Sounds a bit odd to me. Could you clarify that the position as we understand it is correct?
Cheers
ChrisHi Chris
