  • Hey Statman,

I don't quite understand what you mean. If another player had tied with Walden and Jones, Walden would have come second???? How? Sorry but I don't get it. Would really appreciate it, if you could explain that to the more stupid people on here like me .

    Thanks!

Well it looks like, in a two-way tie, the head-to-head decides. But in a three-way tie, frame difference decides, and then head-to-heads only if still equal.

So if another player came along to provide a three-way tie, frame difference would be looked at, in which case Walden would come out above Jones. Assuming the 'extra' player did worse than both Walden and Jones, then this irrelevant third player could reverse Walden and Jones.

      • I personally think that if there is a tie there should a 1 frame decider played to determine a winner or position.

        • Thanks Statman, seems like after criticising the rules so much, I actually forgot what they say (if they say anything at all, that is!).

          Thanks for clarifying!

Still, the idiocy of that whole system eludes my imagination. I just hope that Walden hands in an official complaint. I really do.

          • What's happened with this last match with O'Brien? Seems to have been stuck at 2-1 for a very long time!

He should, beacuse the rules clearly state that:

                7. Should there be an equal number of matches won by two or more players, then the following criteria will determine the final position of each player in each group:
7.1 The player with the best Frame difference

Since Walden and Jones are two players with an equal number of matches won, Walden should be no. 2 because of the frame difference.

Wish it would be that simple, deef. But then we have that tiny little paragraph as well:

                    6. Should there be two players with an equal number of matches won, the winner of the match between the two players who are equal will determine the positions.

see? Told you, it's one big farce.

                    • in that case Walden is not guilty that the rules itself are contradictory and he surely can use this contradiction to defend himself? or I guess there is just is an error on rules that are published on the website and the organizers have a correct version of them...

                      • Surely the idea of Round Robin is that it doesnt matter who you beat. It s your overall performance that counts.

Yes Jones may have beaten Walden but if they are level on points then it means Walden must have beaten someone that Jones couldnt.

Overall performance should then deem that the player with the best record goes through. Which should go number of wins, followed by Frame Difference then frames won.

Going to head to head should be a last resort if all else is the same as it essentially renders all the other matches pointless and reverts to being technically just one best of five match to decide who qualifies. Whats the point in playing the other 6 matches if they are not going to matter in how you progress.

saying that i am just some guy in Korea who doesnt get paid to organise snooker tournaments.
