  • An unenviable record?

Graeme Dott lost 3-0 this afternoon, and scored only 2 points in the match!

Does anyone know if this is a record?

I seem to recall some story of a player going all the way to China to lose 5-0 and score only 4 points. Seem to remember it may have been Paul Hunter or perhaps Ryan Day – as you can tell I'm not really sure and I guess I might be completely wrong. And I don't know, even if it's true, if it was a record anyway!

Edit: its quite late so I might be totally wrong as well

He might have done that too. But he has the record of 12 foul-and-misses in a row

It's funny, but since posting that last night I saw the match, on the BBC at 1 o'clock this morning, and it seemed like the most unlikely match for someone to score only two points. Apart from missing a couple of percentage pots and playing one loose safety it didn't look like Dott played that badly really. Although of course Ding played very solidly, Dott literally didn't really have a chance.

Dott did play well, but he did not get so much chance. that is why he complained about the short format, i think.

He's complaining that the matches are too short. It's not that they're too short.....he just hasn't got over playing matches with one hour long frames in them from April!

Yes, I don't think Dott played 'well' as such, just not badly either!

I don't think the 3-0 frame scoreline was a poor reflection of the game, but the points aggegate of something like 296-2 certainly was!

It's a bit like Murphy. They scorched everyone in the World Championships, but they can't get anywhere else. They're form has dipped. Even Murphy's final in the Welsh Open seemed a struggle.

at least Dott win the next two matches now (3:2 and 3:0), that is not bad for him.

Mark King scored just 11 points in losing 5-0 to John Higgins in the last 16 of the 1997 Grand Prix. This is a record low score for any televised match of at least best-of-nine frames.

The lowest for any ranking match was 8 by Graham Bradley in a 5-0 defaet by Paul Smith in qualifying for the 1992 Reghal Welsh Open.

I don't think anyone has scores less than Dott's two points so it must be a record.

Has Sky Pigeon seen this thread? Becaue according to him your disrespecting Graham Dott and laughing at his expense

kid...just saw this thread..and I don't want to get into this discussion again...and I do't want another thread to get locked because of this... I have noted some things though

                          1. If Statman had named this thread something like " Congratulations Graeme!" and then in it written for example "Dott lost 3-0 this afternoon and only scored 2 points in the match! Congrats :-D" ..then I WOULD say he was disrespectful

                          2. Statman is NOT congratulating Dott, nor sounding very happy at all but in fact stating that it could be an unenviable record. He is simply asking a question and wants to know if this in fact is a record. I don't see this as disrespectful at all.

                          3. Likwise, picking up from the other thread, Jimmy White's unfortunate record of 6 world finals, no wins, can also be stated in different ways....but i think you are getting my drift now...

What I wanted to say last night and couldn't properly formulate, is that it is all in HOW you say things..and HOW the things you say are interpreted by your peers. (In philosopy this is called Semantics and is in fact a whole huge area all by itself). I read and regarded your thread as disrespectful BECAUSE it felt happy and jubilant to me, because of the words you used...it's all in the words, kid...it didn't sound to me as you were just merely stating a snooker fact...and as you have seen above...ANYONE could be the subject of it,,,,had nothing to do with Higgo..could have been Dott, White or Ronnie...( a similar thing could, as you now know, be constructed out of HIS misfurtune of having the record of 496 (not exactly sure of this number) unanswered points from last year's GP!)

Hope you understand what I'm trying to get at Kid..and as I said..this will be it for me..I'm NOT going to continue this squabble....I have tried to explain my point and I hope that we can go on from here...at least I hope we can agree to disagree. Have a good day,and I hope you will enjoy the final, as that's what I'm going to do!

                          4. FYI I am a woman, not a man... :-D

im absolutely over the moon that graeme has this record, and im sure he wont be. serves him right for being a rangers fan. i hope he gets more records like this that he doesnt want.

erm, i dont mean any of that at all, but i just wanted to warm up my typing.

anyway, before curtis comes with the key for this thread too (not a dig), then ill add my 2 bobs worth

i have a laugh at other players expense whom i dont like. i respect them as players, but if i dont like them, or they lose then im happy. thats sport imho.

WRT the other thread, i think it was handbags (and skys is likely to be better than KD's) at 10 paces, as they say, but on the internet its hard to tell exactly what the written word means, especially when we dont know each other.

was dissapointed about the "dumb" part of the last thread, as it was detracting from the debate. quite sure ive done similar when crossed wires are concerned.

so, pass the peace pipe? who wants it next?
