because of his performance, I think. plus Perry, Norman have been playing some of their best snooker ever. unfortunately for Ding.

He still has his flaws. Just remember he did not qualify for the worldchampionships as well, last time.

Why does this surprise you so much? Stephen Maguire is better than Ding IMHO. Joe Perry is an excellent player, Andrew Norman is also a very good player on the rise. Ding just met his match he's not unbeatable is he.

I agree the other players are not to be underrated, though i have my doubts about maguire over the last couple of seasons. He does not seem to make any progress! After beating Ronnie a couple of seasons ago comfortably, I thought he would be the man to beat, but it all went downhill from there.

I always thought he would struggle in these best of five matches. He’s not a quick starter and always takes about a few frames to settle in. He’s still not very consistent IMO.

I agree Paul about Maguire , each time he gets a bit further in a tournament i get enthusiast hoping he's back on track like in good old days. Unfortunately he's not making constant progress.
As for Norman and Perry , they had some very good days - not sure about Andrew i haven't actually seen him playing but Joe's is a good player , Dynamite is right, experienced also, and he seems to be on "a hot roll" at the moment ,he made a good match ag. Kendo last night , the result speaks for itself.
So ..gee Mr. Ding is not invincible , he has his bad days...

I am also very disappointed about Ding this time, especially after his perfect opening match against Dott. Why couldn't he just keep going? Suppose this kind of odd robin format did get to the kid, too short for him to recover from early mistakes. As a matter of fact he be able to show more strength in longer matches (He has been nicknamed "King of second session" by some Chinese media since some time ago). All in all, this kind of experience is quite necessary for him to learn and to grow up from.

Interesting thoughts on this one, it would be interesting to see if he would perform in another round robin format, and if he did indeed grow from the experience and move on from being the "King of second session". Only time will tell.

recently in the league, and at this tournament he seems to be showing a lot more frustration. previously there was no emotion, but now he often looks angry and plays wild shots.

                        He'll grow out of it.

Excuse me for saying this but his age has sod all to do with it!
You dont see Jamie Jones, Judd Trump, Jamie Cope, Ben Woolaston, Mark Allen, and Andrew Norman using that excuse do you.
Just please learn to accept the fact that Ding is a good not great player.
He has won 3 titles but still has a lot to learn about the game, hell even Steve Davis still has things to learn in the game, and he will tell you that himself!
The mere fact that he has won 3 titles, should in theory give him a better chance, as he has dealt with the pressures of being in a major final which can be quite hard to deal with.
And as for his recent temper, well thats called being a teenager, I do it, everyone does.
Ive said it before, and I'll say it again, Ding is by far the most over-rated player in the world, if he can beat Ebdon 5-0, Doherty 6-0, and Hendry 9-4 when he is younger than he is now, dont use his age as an excuse for losing 3-2 for the lesser expirianced Andrew Norman, as I seem to remember Ding pointlessly being awarded 2 Masters invites, he can cope with pressure, age hasnt affected any of them, only not being as good as he is made out to be has made you react like this!
                              1994 a good year
                              The Masters a great event
                              The Final a marvellous match
                              The Winner a snooker genius
                              Alan McManus The Winner
                              Stephen Hendry The Loser

                              1994 a good year....
