It is just curious that Maguire won all his matches comfortably and got thrashed by Hawkins now, hence Hendo is out and Hawkins progresses. AHEM!

      • Doesn't matter who WON more frames. FRAME DIFFERENCE (won minus lost) counts.

I dont think maguire was all that bothered about his last match as he was through already..I f he had needed to win the match, then things most likely would of been different!

Exactly! But it is a flaw in the format! Because with your interest or disinterest in a match, you can actively influence who goes through with you and who doesn't. With "normal" tournaments, you can at least forge your own destiny. I don't like this!

I don't actually think GSC's figures add up for once. A few of the match results in their group tables are wrong or inconsistent. That said, Hawkins is still through by my reckoning. Hendry's frame difference is +1, Hawkins's is +3. McLeod could've qualified above Hawkins if he'd won his match by the same margin or better.

sadly, this is very true i've experienced it myself in local tourneys over here, things like that are bound to happen in group stages!
unfortunately, they're very hard to prove & hardly anything can be done about it... 2 players (friends usually or would benefit from expelling a 3rd party) can conspire to dispose of a 3rd player!
i find it hard to believe it's the case here tho

                    • Robert is very right . So if McLeod wins the match ag. Cope 4-1 ( according to ES the score is 2-1 for Rory) .. he'll have same FD as Hawkins +3 . What will happen then ?

I didn't realise that match was still live. If he wins 4-1 he'll go through as he beat Hawkins in their head to head.

                          • I find this very amusing. seems we are in 2007 and WSA cannot even come up with a live table standings as the scoring goes on.

Agreed, it's rather pathetic. And then the incoming results vary from source to source. I give up.

Any other coverage tonight other than BBC? Eurosport is showing some damn golf here, and CCTV5 is showing football.
