Royal London Watches Grand Prix First Round Discussion
.....
The fifth frame took almost an hour and was full of boredom and mistakes.
.....
I thinks thats where I dozed off . Just woke up again to see Gunnell finishing off the match. In my defence it is now 3.30 am here and I had a tiring day.
I'm not on about Cope, I'm talking about the Parrot-King match. John Parrot has played reasonable here, i hope that he can play to his full ability next round though.
I love the game of snooker :) (even though my mates think that its just a load of balls :D )

What do you mean full ability? This is not the Parrott of the 90s. He's purposefully messed the table up in the last few frames to knock King out of his stride. That, combined with a damaged tip has been King's undoing. He was playing great before all this.

John has basically bogged down Mark King, an attacking player, through good safety and tactical play. John might not be up to the standard that he was playing throughout the 90's but he can still manage to beat most players if he is playing half-decent, as seen tonight.

I disagree. He played great with the tactics he employed tonight. Seriously, how many half chances did King have in those last two frames? Parrott pots a long one, scores a few points, then messes the table up. I can't see what any player could have done in those frames. A classic example of a player battling the other player, not the table. He punched him up and i can see him doing the same thing to Carter in the next round, since he is a similar player to King. There was nothing wrong with Mark's temperament tonight. He stuck at it. The score reads 5-3, but that doesn't tell the story
Did you see the pink Parrot missed in the middle pocket? (His game ball after he potted the long blue?) Does old age really do that to a player, it was a half table shot, may be a thick 3/4 ball or something like that. Looks like he was really struggling out there.
I watched some of his early videos in his younger days, and he was a very nice player.
Good for him to be in the last 16 anyhow
