Hendrys not the only established player on the circuit to be seriously underachieving.
The problem is that being a former 7 times world champion hes getting a lot more press and pressure regarding his form.
The fact of the matter remains that he has had some successful campaigns in recent seasons, semis of the WC and final of the UK, which is more than some players that go under the radar. He ran out of steam against Ebdon in that final and was jaded by a rare flawless Ronnie performance. The Ronnie yesterday would have been beaten by Hendry in May but thats by the by.
In every match you'll see glimmers of the Hendry of old, but stricken with needlessly unforced errors due to his low confidence and insecurities.
Higgins vouched for Hendrys lack of form and confirmed he is playing very well in practise. He clearly just needs a bit of confidence from a good performance.

Ronnie, what can I say, his demanour has been poor all tournament, even virgo said that he looked like a different ronnie and "something was up" (might have been clive)
In any case, it was poor and missed balls he wouldn't miss ina million years. All week he has been knocking his ability and reducing his successes.
He is a troubled mind and I hope his father can sort it. Not just that but his attitude can be poor. Today I saw no ronnie that looked like he actually wanted to win. I was very disappointed/. Judd couldn't have tried harder to give the match away and ronnie blew it in a style I have not seen since Ebdon

Trump's weaknesses will be found out sooner or later. You can't say he got over the winning line yesterday. He was allowed to fall over. He won't beat Ronnie again this season, that's for sure. My feeling is that Ronnie subconsciously wanted to lose because he was playing so poorly, so he made further mistakes. Not unprofessional, just psychological. If he potted that black in frame 6, he would have thought differently about his performance and gone on to win.sigpic

if Peter Ebdon is investigated then Ronnie must be investigated with the amount of chances he gave Trump to beat him 5-4 lol.....

Hendrys game was built on obviously his breakbuilding , but he created a vast percentage of his oppotunities , with his single ball potting , sometimes he took on one long pot too many ,but even when he missed his opponents were stage frightened, and more often than not, failed to capitalise . His main problem now is his long potting his success ratio is probably 40% down on his peak ,and coupled with confidence , it is just not good enough today . Like several golfers who go on too long watching Parrott , even though he got to the last eight and Davis was painfull too watch , these players obviously love playing competively , but i feel there legacy would be better preserved if they retired gracefully . and when Hendry drops out of the top 16 at the end of probably next season , it would do him no harm and his standing to call it a day , ala terry griffiths , virgo . who quit at the top .

highbreak_8, sorry but this is nonsense. If Hendry wants to continue playing even if he's out of top-16, then he should continue. Nor he, nor any other player should quit just because fans want them to 'go out on top'. It's their lives and their careers, not ours, and they should do what they think is best for them.Winner of crucible77's 2008 World Championship Fantasy Snooker Game

reply , I should have said , Virgo quit at the top of HIS game , he was never a world beater ,but he got out at the right time capatalising on his snooker act .
And i agree and i stated ,if a player enjoyes playing competitivly , then who are we mere mortals to deny them that right ,but unfortunatly we are talking about professional sport , and a reputation , legacy can be erroded , on the way down ,just as much as it can be made on the way up . Golf and snooker are unique, as in players can continue long past there best , but it would be sad watching hendry at qualifying .

The uk and Worlds will decide his 16 place and should that go badly he will no doubt consider his future, but at their level the game is a drug, you only have to look at Steve Davis and what he has achieved.
I can see no end to his career just yet, china and the developing snooker scene around the world will give him many options. I dont see any tournament wins but his century record is very important to him, each time he makes one he is breaking a record.
I dont think many of us will recognise the snooker scene in another decade.
