That man is just incredible, he had a nightmare of a night, just a nightmare,then comes up with a clearance at the end like that- amazing!!! and the first time ever you could see Davis shaking on the match ball (he never shakes) ,he wanted it that bad.
Over used word .......but about him no.........legend!!!

It'd have made far more sense to title this thread 'Davis Vs Gunnel - result' - then anyone who wants to, can avoid learning the outcome of a match.

Yep I avoided the forum until the highlights were on. You could see Davis was struggling to control his celebration after he cleared. What a clearance as well - that Brown!!

At age 51 he's still one of the best snooker players in the world. We sort of take it for granted but for his age he is unbelievably good - the best 50+ year old snooker player in history I'd say.

1978 was a good year for the oldies....

Ray Reardon became the oldest World Champion at the age of 45 years and 6 months, while Fred Davis became the oldest semi-finalist in the championship at the age of 64 years and 8 months, losing 18-16 to Perrie Mans.
Fred's brother, Joe Davis, attended his semi-final match with Mans, which was so gripping that he collapsed and fell ill. He died two months later.

Yes, but I think most would say the competition is stiffer than in the mid-80's, the standard is higher now and the style of play is favouring young attacking players. Though I admit Mountjoy come close.

Yeah, the style of the game is different now - the skills are much more youth oriented these days. In the 70's and 80's the game was conducted as a series of tactical battles where knowledge and experience took precedence over technique. Clearly Reardon was a 'better' player than Davis at 50 because he was the world number 1, had just come off a world final and would go on to win another ranking title. Davis against Reardon at the same age though I'm pretty sure Davis would take it.
