Well done John, he took his chance very well in the final frame.

Shame for Ronnie as he good have tied it up the frame before if not for that easy red into the top left, I don't think he's is going to be in a nice mood about himself today.

    And well done Mark Allen.

Yeah, kinda disappointing. But it's good that John punished him for the mistake he made. Hope to see Ronnie shines again in the next tournament! Congrats John, and all the best! Get into the semi, finals, trophy! =D

Exciting match in spite of many mistakes. Glad to see the local boy win at the end. Maybe he could defend his title at the end?!
Ten reds and not a colour...

Oh My God what an afternoon!

Jamie Cope misses a tough green and leaves it over the pocket and calls it a day

So an unconvincing win for Allen:snooker:

Oh and Well Done John Higgins

I was watching both before but gave up to concentrate on ronnie/john.

Was the last frame pretty scarp then?

With that performance, if he defends his title, that will be a shame for every other player in the tournament.. Quite simply that could be a copy of their semifinal encounter in Shanghai had Ronnie played solid, not even great..

So, what a disappointing day for me.. Ronnie out and Allen, one I really don't like, is through.. Only positive result is that Cope is out, who has also never been one of my favourites..

Still will be looking to Mark J tomorrow, I hope to see him in good performance against Hendry..
                      All the way Mark J!!

Yep, definately scrappy Mark Allen got in twice with around 20/25 breaks but then there was a lot of dreadful misses and bad saftey in between

Jamie attempted to clear up the last red and colours at the end but missed the green

Well now! Ronnie and John are human after all [ Ronnie slightly more so on this day ]. Cope and Allen definitely are.

For me... John + Neil = Good Final.

                          =o)

Yes that was what I meant !! Pc got ahead of me !

Glad Allen pulled it out or at least didn't throw it away. Maybe a rematch for him and john later on would be good. Remember his fist punch on 8 points at the back end of end of their match in the WC, best celebration for 8 points that WT has ever seen and then he lost that frame I think !

I'll remember this match when the "best match of the season" thread creeps up in May. As best of 9s go, it doesn't get better than that. I expected Higgins to win it, but O'Sullivan showed that he was on it straight away. Higgins is not one to be bullied when he's in form though. He's shown once again that he is a master of this kind of snooker, where a lot of safety is played with 20 balls on the table, followed by good scoring.

I thought O'Sullivan looked slightly better up to the business end of the match, but he didn't have his usual bottle today. Maybe not feeling the crowd behind him affected him a bit.

But once again I don't have the words to praise John Higgins enough. What a classy break in the decider, very reminiscent of his breaks in the 25th frames against Cope and Selby at the WC. Must be favourite for the title now, but there are still a lot of the top players waiting to play in the 2nd round.

                              Bring on Robertson and Doherty!

Can anyone tell me how Allen played compared to when he played Mcculloch in the 1st round?
