  • Drago in the Malta Cup

He's playing all three of his matches in Malta and the event will now start a day earlier.

John Parrott and Micheal Holt are both going to Malta because they are seeded to play Drago in the Last 64 and Last 48

They'd be some good matches. Drago has been doing better so far this season.

has there already been a special arrangement for TD in the "finals" of competitions held in Malta previously?

Exactly the same thing happened in the Malta qualifiers last year. Although his ranking wasnt so low then, so if i remember right, he only had 1 qualifying round to play, instead of 2.

Am I the only one who thinks this is unfair?

Did Mark Allen get special treatment for the NI Trophy by playing all his qualifiers in Belfast? - No.

Will Liu Song and Tian Pengfei be allowed to go to Beijing for their China Open qualifiers? - I will take a guess and say no.

Why, then, does Drago get to play in Malta while all the other foreign players will go to Prestatyn? He should just accept the fact that he may not qualify this year, and concentrate on getting back up the rankings, (which to be fair, he seems to be doing as he's already won more matches this season than the whole of last year).

If the Maltese fans want someone to cheer, I assume they will be having a wildcard round again, so we can all watch Joe Grech getting thrashed.

I think in fairness Drago may not ask to be sent to Malta early. It is more likely a publicity stunt by the wpbsa to drum up support for a lower profile event.

This is interesting. Ding has to play a qualifying match for this season’s China Open. Will they do the same for him? Can’t imagine the China Open without Ding either.

The Maltese may not have much to cheer about this year as Drago's chance of success must be about 2000 - 1. If Drago does somehow manage to get past these 2 players and into the final rounds, the player then standing in his way in the first round proper is none other than Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Also who are Zammit and Gretch ? I take it they are Maltese locals, but they are not on the main tour or even in the PIOS league ?

Joe Grech certainly has been on the main tour in the past, and I think Zammit may have done.

It is easy to miss the fact that these two are actually wildcards playing in an 'extra' wildcard round, whereas Drago is playing in the 'real' qualifying rounds, just played in Malta rather than Prestatyn.

Ding is having his match held over to China.
And to answer the Mark Allen situation, is Northern Ireland part of the UK? Yes. Is Malta? No.

Tony like as wa ssaid, is Jimmy over there, and why shouldn't his fans be able to see theyre NUMBER ONE sportsman play?

Personally I think it is very fair, Lee Spick, Dragos first opponant, will relish the idea of being at a venue, the fans get to see snooker legend John Parrott play, and Michael Holt gets a prep match for his game with O'Sullivan, all in all, I am in favour of this.

                              The Final a marvellous match

                              Alan McManus The Winner
                              Stephen Hendry The Loser
