Jimmy lost 3-5. I'm so disappointed I'll go cry in the corner now.

He has had it now. If he does drop off the tour should the WPBSA award him a wildcard for next season or give it to a younger player?

Apart from Jimmy's shock result, Jamie Cope lost his match too. Just goes to show how tough the qualifiers are nowadays.

I dont think we should totally write him off yet. We shouldnt give up until he does ! Maybe he needs to visist a sports psychologist or hypnotist or something.

But if he does get demoted this year, i dont think it would be fair on young newcomers to give him a wildcard straightaway, no matter how much he may deserve it.

That's the problem with these straight knock-out tournaments, they're way too random.....

                  Sorry couldn't resist.

McManus 386 and White 402. You were talking about ages? I thought you were talking World Rankings....

Is that my coat in the corner, I'll nip and get it!

This brings up an interesting point. In golf, players get the chance to stay on the tour if they drop below 125th for a number of reasons, but it is a one-off deal. For example in the USPGA this year, David Duval can claim a year on the tour as he is among the top 25 life-time earners.

These opportunities are one-off deals (ie Duval can't claim another year next year for the same reason).

People who win tournaments also get an exemption (1,2 or 5 years depending on the importance).

Should Snooker build something like this in to the tour?

                        Just another quick point here.

The Malta Cup qualifiers take place now, and the Malta Cup in January/February. I struggle to see the logic in this, and think the qualifiers would be far more appropriately placed in early January, so that those qualifiers are more likely to still be in form when the tournament comes around.

                        Anyone agree/disagree?

agree that qualifiers should be quite close to the finals of comps, but sometimes the calendar (not just snooker events) makes some events' qualifiers run a bit too far away from the finals IMHO. this being one....

I've been looking at the calendar quite closely recently in an attempt to create a blue-print for the snooker season.

It's not far away from completion now, and I'm going to send it to World Snooker for comment. I'll keep you informed. Basically though, qualifiers would finish at most three weeks prior to the start of the Final stages.

Had a very productive ank Holiday yesterday as you can tell!!

They gave Steve James a second chance recently when he failed to survive his first year back on the main tour. I guess sometimes it is right to give the older guys another crack at the whip.
