Believe it or not, this is snooker's two hundredth ranking tournament, counting the World Championships of 1974, 1975 and 1976 as the first three (these were not 'ranking' at the time, but the first ranking list in 1976-77 looked at the three previous World Championships so they became 'ranking tournaments' in retrospect).
Of these finals, 125 have been won by the higher-ranked and 70 by the lower-ranked. (The other 4 were the first three, when there were no rankings, and the 2006 UK which has not been finished yet).
On 59 occasions the event has been won by the official no.1 at the time, and 16 times the no.1 has been beaten in the final.
There are 29 ranking events in which the winner was outside the top-16 and 37 where the runner-up was outside the top-16 – on six occasions neither finalist was a top-16er.
