  • Masters Wildcard Poll

    1) Ricky Walden He has won a ranking event this season and therefore should be at the top of the list unless a player outside the top 16 wins the Grand Prix or Bahrain Championships.

    2) Judd Trump The BBC audience will have gotten to know this player this week and if he did win would probably then be first choice. He is an attacking player which will count in his favour.

    3) Dave Harold Reached the Northern Ireland Trophy final in fine form but his style will count against him. He was a semi finalist in the 2001 Masters but isn't likely to get it due to his age as a fresher face may be wanted.

    4) Jimmy White Has had a great start to the season and would obviously be a popular choice. However I would be dissapointed if he was awarded the place as its time to move on.

    5) Steve Davis Former winner like Jimmy and has reached two quarters already this season. Again I would be dissapointed if he was awarded it.

    6) Liang Wenbo A quarter finalist at the Worlds and a very exciting talent to watch. A Wenbo pick will also please the Chinese audience but there are players who deserve the spot ahead of him.

    7) Mark J Williams Former winner and back in the top 16 provisionally. Can't see him getting it but will put him in there because of his record at Wembley.

    8) Stephen Lee He was runner up last year so does he deserve another crack at the title?

The Masters is a tournament for proven winners, so while you have a current title holder outside of the top 16 they should get it. I guess that honour falls to Ricky Walden this year but I wouldn't be surprised to see Steve Davis pick it up. I don't mind a past master getting it when there are no other obvious candidates, but I recall Chris Small getting shafted in favour of Davis for the 2003 event and I thought he was treated unfairly.

I think I should get the wild card.

I have won all my league matches so far this year including a magnificant break of 21.

If I dont deserve the wild card then nobody does!!
Just because its old, doesn't mean its worth a fortune!!

I think that Burwat Champ should be getting the wildcard if he is undefeated and knocking in breaks like that, it's only fair ,and the crowd will love it .

Steve Davis - both on previous record and on current results.
Though it very well may be Mark Williams.
Wenbo, Trump and others still have nothing to show for themselves so their presence at the tournament will be hard to explain. It's not called 'Masters' for nothing.
If Walden has a decent run in other tournaments, he may get the wildcard - like Fu last year.

                  I'd like to see Davis.

the only 2 players that deserve it at the moment is Walden and Wenbo.......

ive gone for wenbo because he has impresed me that he has managed to be consistant enough in All Tournaments with losing to 3 great players Higgins, O'Sullivan and the New Provisional top 4 player Ryan Day.

I disagree, I think Harold is also another player who is of derservable mention. He's been one of the main players of the season and everyone's eye is on him as much as everyone else. However, my choice still remains Walden for the reasons already said.

EDIT: Actually saying that, I believe Barry Hawkins also deserves a shot at the Masters for that run up to the quater finals of the North Ireland.

WTF?! I just read on Wiki that Barry won the wildcard - linked to an expired page on World Snooker. Can anyone confirm this?

Wild, what did Wenbo ever do to deserve invitation to Masters? Going out consistently in second round of every tournament is not enough for most important invitational tournament of the year, and if it is - then why Wenbo and not Cope or Bingham?

He did win it, but he won it last year.

we shoudnt need to be voting on this because with ricky walden winning in shanghai, then this should confirm him as a wildcard.. if not, then theres something seriously wrong!

Its trump for me but do understand tha claims of others, at least the serious ones

The future of snooker is important and Trump is definitely that, he has much tablecraft to learn, but his potting from distance reminds me very much of a youthful Hendry and he is very viewer friendly.
He needs to make giant strides, but in my opinion he is no forlorn hope to become the youngest world champion ever.
