  • He's 25, was a pretty good junior winning some big events and has now been on the tour since 2006/7. He's not done a great deal on the ranking circuit, but is slowly starting to move up the rankings, having won his first match in every even this season.

    • Trump through, too bad for Doherty.... I now really hope Trump wins it.

      • But yeah nothing against Trump at all, would be great to see him at Wembley.

        • Anyone know the current scores of the Matthew Stevens match? World Snooker has stopped working, as it seems, or is it at a mid-session interval? I know it's 4-2 but if anyone knows of the current scores (if any), I'd be greatful. I hope Stevens wins it.

          Thanks.

Well, there's nothing to suggest he's playing bad from the scores of the frames. Matthew is cueing well, especially that 101-break, but maybe Mark is just playing better and not giving Matthew a chance:

          Matthew Stevens - Mark Joyce
          101(101)-0, 27-70(35), 22-65(64), 22-56, 25-91(90), 79(57)-53

              • It would be strange seeing Joyce at "the masters" but imagine if he looses to Judd Trump tomorrow and they give the wildcard to, say Walden. That's gotta hurt, getting SO close but missing out.

Mark won the 2001 European under 19 championship, beating along the way both his English team mates Ben Woollaston and Judd Trump, before beating David Donovan in the final.

He was in the middle of his A-Levels at the time and it was quite funny to see him studying his Maths homework while most of the players were off enjoying themselves.

                  • Gutted for Matthew and thrilled for Mark Joyce

I reckon maybe Matthew's put himself into the reckoning for the wildcard too now. With a final appearance and now this semi final.

Maybe Ken also. Great to see him have a run and get some good match practice under his belt ahead of the UK.

But if Mark goes on to win tomorrow then Judd will probably head the list of likely wildcards.

Now that's not a bad idea either. Daniel is one of the new "hot shots"
and what better way to publicise that scheme than give him a run at Wembley

                          • Surely Ricky Walden should get the wildcard having won a ranking event?
